MFP help and support

Hi all,

I weigh an obscene amount (18st 4) I'm otherwise healthy in every way much to my GPS surprise. I did MFP a couple of years ago and got frustrated measuring our food then not being able to find it etc. But am determined to get back on the horse (poor horse!) and shift this weight.

I'm getting married in January next year and want to have lost at least 3-4 stone.

  1. Is this possible in 9 months or am I being very unrealistic
  2. Is it possible to do this just using MFP or am I barking up the wrong tree completely.
3.any tips for getting back into MFP

Thanks all!

Totally possible!

That's like losing 1 stone every 3 months, or 1/2 stone every 6 weeks.

Because you're quite overweight you'll probably lose more than that.

Forget MFP...

Take your goal weight (in pounds) and times that by 10 or 11 to find your daily calories. So if you want to weigh 160lbs, have between 1600 and 1760 calories to lose approx. 2lbs a week. Works every time.

It's just sticking to it, that's the hard bit! I'm trying myself. X

Thank you so much. I did my first proper day yesterday and ended up changing my calorie goal manually on there so I can still scan food and bits and pieces.
My major issue is snacking. I'm not w big meal eater and never have been but I graze throughout the day. This is the bit that I will find tough!

Good luck to you though x

I'm a big fan of MFP, different strokes, different folks and all that. It allows me to have any food (can't cut out carbs and chocolate forever). I find it easy to scan the barcode of whatever i'm eating or ingredients for recipes and go from that.

Work out the amount of calories you would need to eat to stay the same weight - known as your TDEE Here's a calculator and subtract 500 calories a day to lose 1lb a week.

I like the numbers, certainty part of it. While weight loss is never linear, steady losses each week. The laws of physics say that if you consume less than you expend, you must lose weight. I have faith in that.

Best of luck and join us on the Moving down in May chant thread.

First week fluke or not you are off to a great start!

@grumpyorange I've just started back to mfp today myself. To be within healthy bmi I would need to lose about 4 stone but if I could even shift two I'd be delighted. I've tried Sw in the past and it worked well for me but since having kids I find it too much of a faff. Well done on your first week. I'm not sure if walking is an option for you but looking back to 2 years ago on mfp I was eating 1600 cals a day and walking 10k steps and it was working. That's what I need to get back to!
