When will I drop a dress size

After I had my second child last August I weighed 13 stone 9 and was wearing size 16 clothes. So I began calorie counting (1500 cals a day) and am now fluctuating between 11.5- 12 stone depending on how strict I am with it. However, I am still a size 16!! I just find it odd that I’ve dropped approx two stone and yet I’m still the same clothes size!

Has anyone else had this issue? I’m 5’9 and an apple shape (all my weight goes on my stomach/ muffin top if that makes a difference) I’m also breastfeeding.

I would have thought you would have dropped a dress size with that much weight loss. How many inches have you lost?

Fatted · 14/07/2019 21:12

Depends where you carry the weight really. I'm a lot shorter, but usually 10 lbs to a stone is a dress size for me.

Could it be that when you were bigger you were wearing a size too small and now they fit you a bit better? Are you actually wearing the same clothes? Have you tried on new ones yet?

I have never measured inches, wish I had done. I’ve just been wearing the same clothes I had at size 16 and they still fit! I live in leggings usually due to the stretchiness all at a size 16 but tried on a pair of old size 14 river island jeans the other day and could do them up but were way too tight. Perhaps my legs feel thinner but my problem area is my stomach and it doesn’t seem to have budged at all!

I lost a dress size every stone. I don't mean to be horrid, but were you really a 16? I told myself I was an 18, but that's because I only wore jersey fabric dresses and leggings, all v old. When I took my measurements I was actually a 22/24. So it took a long time for me to be able to buy "smaller" clothes, i.e. size 16.

Fwiw I'm a 10/12 (fabric and clothing item depending!) now and I still weigh 12.5 stone. Really need to get back on it but I have a chronic illness which keeps flaring up and my body seems happy this size. I'm only 5'6" so still a stone and a half overweight at least.

Dhalandchips · 14/07/2019 22:50

I've lost 30kgs and only two dress sizes! So miffed! I'm 5'6" started at 107 kg wearing an 18-20. Now 77kg wearing a 16. Grrr! I am quite solidly built, my lard is bum and thighs mainly.

It could be a possibility as I do tend to go for looser/ jersey type clothes, e.g a long top and leggings and as I saw the numbers going down on the scales I attempted to wear more fitted clothes but was disappointed that the few fitted size 16 tops I do own aren’t loose at all.

I've lost 4.5 stone and I'm still a size 16. Ok, so a small size 16 compared to what I was but still size 16. It's rubbish !!

I've lost almost 2 stone and have gone from a 12 top/14 bottom to a 10 top/12 bottom... I had hoped to go down more than one size with a two stone loss but am hoping that another three quarter stone might get me back to a 10 all over...

I think it takes less of a loss to lose a size the lighter you get, if that makes sense? Due to weighing less so a smaller loss equating to the same proportion of body weight.

I (5'7 tall) was a 14 at just under 12 stone, a 12 at 10 stone (currently) and a 10 at 9 stone 3 ish (from memory!) So even though the first size drop took a 2 stone loss the second size loss (to get back to where I used to be) should be achievable with a smaller drop. That's what I hope anyway! Another two stone would certainly see me lose way more than one size - at 8 stone I would be a gaunt 6 or something (and I certainly won't be losing that much - stopping at 9'3 (if I can get there!)

Hopefully with just a bit more loss you will see the clothes sizes start to go down more rapidly, which is always encouraging!

I am much shorter than you at 5ft 3 but Irecently lost some weight. I was 12st and a size 14, I now weigh 9st 5lbs and am a size 8 mostly occasionally a size 10 but not often. I find it amazing how people can weigh the same but be such different size clothes.

Soul31 · 17/07/2019 14:42

@TheOnlyTruePirate that’s useful to know, I was thinking I would end up being a 16 no matter how much I lostConfused I’m just going to keep going and hoping it has an effect soon.

@Figaro88 I agree! I know people who are shorter and thinner than me but weigh more, I think a lot of it depends on how your built too. I’ve always had very skinny legs but all my weight goes round my middle, buying jeans is a nightmare.

I've lost almost 3 stone. I was between sizes 20-22. I am still wearing the same clothes but went to the ASDA sale and fit into size 16 clothing. They just fit so much better. Go out and buy new clothes, you might just be thinking they still fit because we don't lose the weight quick.
