Exercises calorie with step counter?

I've got a step counter, that calculates calories used.

On MFP I've put myself as sedentary, so how many of the steps/calories can I count as exercise calories?
For example today, I actually went for a longish walk, so according to my step counter I did 22000 steps today, and burned 1000 calories.
How many of them can I say are extra to my baseline? I've tentatively put 200 calories on mfp but I'm thinking that I probably burned 600 calories over my sedentary baseline? Or is that too optimistic?

My step counter is link to my fitness pal so it adds them in. But I don't eat any of my exercise calories back. So ignore it really.

Can you link the app for the step counter to map?

Unfortunately not, it’s one of the ones that aren’t yet compatible. But it operates differently to a Fitbit, which I understands calculates your bmr too. This one only shows calories burned by steps.

Theres loads of bmr calculators on line. Calculate your bmr on there and then just set your calories on mfp.

Unless you are looking to eat some of those calories back. Whenever I have eaten calories back, fat loss stops. I was weight training at the time. My weight went up, due to muscle but body fat % stayed the same. So if you are aiming for fat loss I wouldn't worry about how many you are burning and just use your bmr.

I hope that's helpful Smile
