Been healthy eating for the last 3 weeks, restricting calories to around 1200 a day and also going to the gym 3 times a week.

I thought may have lost a bit of weight but I’ve weighed myself and I’ve gained a fucking lb! I’m so upset!

I know you’re all going to say maybe I’ve gained some muscle but I honestly have inspected my body in the mirror and I can see no difference at all either.

I’m going to stick with it but it’s so disheartening to not see any results at all.

Any suggestions on how I can speed it up?

Typical day food wise-

Breakfast:
Bowl of melon, strawberries and raspberries
Green tea

Lunch:
Home made soup (or occasionally Covent Garden soup - 200 cals)

Dinner:
Lean chicken with potatoes (minimal) and mostly veg like broccoli, fine green beans etc) all logged on calorie counter.

Snacks:
Highlights hot chocolate in the evening (38 cals) to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Banana

At the gym I tend to do a 45-60 min class 3 x a week and also 20-30 mins cardio on either the treadmill or step machine.

Any ideas how I can speed this up?

It might be your muscles holding more water and carbs because of all the exercise. Don't give up yet, give it a month at least, you're trying really hard.

Are you counting your calories properly? The example you posted looks to be at a push around 900 calories, but probably lower. And rather low in protein tbh.

hi,

I think I know why you are not losing. You say 1200 calories per day but how have you come to this target limit of 1200 calories?

Completely ignore the government guidelines on 2000 calories per day target as it is completely meaningless. You need to know what calories you need to eat to maintain your weight for your specific age, sex and height and your activity levels.

Just do a google search and input the figures and you will get an idea. if you find a good site it can tell you how many calories you need to eat per day to get to a certain target weight in a certain time.

I am male, 46 and weigh 66.2kg. I was 83kg at one point! Currently to maintain my weight i need to eat 1443 calories per day. So way lower than the 2,500 guideline by the government. To lose 0.5kg you need to create a 3,500 calorie deficit. so to lose 0.5Kg in a week i would have to consume 943 calories!

compare that to your 1200 per day and I am a man (a short one at that!). You might be consuming too many calories.

So my suggestion to you is get that target calorie intake number first and make sure it is accurate. Then I guarantee you you will lose weight. I did and still continue to do so (most weeks anyhow!).

1200 is usually the lowest you can go when dieting unsupervised so this is not the issue. If anything, her diet looks like too few calories, not too many.
Is it not time of the month or something like that?
