Hi all,

I currently weigh 10 stone (was 8 and a half stone before my baby who’s now a year old)

I walk for about 40 minutes plus everyday.

Eat about 1,500 calories most days.

What do I need to do to up my weight loss, nothing seems to work?

Thanks

Do you get out of breath and sweaty whilst walking? 40 minutes a day really isn't very much, I do more than that just on the school run. Lifting weights, strength training and doing HIIT is what you want.

What else have you tried? How tall are you - is that weight in the healthy range for your height?

Building muscle will help to burn calories (and help to tone you).

Walking is great - if you go at a brisk pace as Pinkhorse said - you need to get out of breath to consider it as exercise.

Nah... and my body is probably so used to walking now. It’s basically the walk when I’m getting my DD to sleep.

Would strength training help me lose weight? I’ve always thought that it would make me gain weight for some reason

I’m about 5,5 so healthy range.

I haven’t really tried much else to be honest. I really want to join the gym but being a SAHM it’s a bit expensive for me.

Strength training is great for weight loss. Women do not get bulky from weights in the same way that men do as we don't have the testosterone levels. It's great fun, much more fun than cardio Smile

Ahh thanks! What sort of gym classes do you do?

I don't do classes, I use the free weights but body pump is a good class. That focuses on lower weight and higher reps. Look for something like that. I use YouTube at home for HIIT. Search for Bodycoach HIIT. He's great!

Will do thank you!

Do you think lowering my calorie intake will help to?

If you're doing weight training don't lower your calorie intake you'll make yourself ill!!

1500 calories is about right if you train

my PT has me on 1600 but that's net ie I can eat 1600 if I do zero exercise that day but whatever exercise I do I add those to my allowed calories.

Today I've burned around 1200 calories from swimming and brisk walking so I can eat 2800 calories today - it's a good day Grin

xamyrose · 11/06/2018 18:11

Oh wow! I just seem to maintain my weight and not lose anything so we’ll see how I get on with weight training.

Strength training won’t make you put weight on unless you you do it full time (and eat full time). It isn’t super easy to build a lot of muscle (that’s one reason why it burns so many calories, it takes a lot of energy).
