Holiday on June 8th! Size 22 and need to be a 16! Any chance?

So, I had my little one on August the 1st, he's my first baby and I love him to pieces, I've been yoyoing from an 18 to a 22 for a few years now. I didn't put on any extra weight during my pregnancy, but was a size 22 before and after my pregnancy.
I started healthy eating and exercising 6 weeks after my c section. I was golden but wasn't losing anything, I read it was probably hormones and to persevere. Not going to lie, I figured if I'm not going to lose weight then I'm going to carry on eating crap.
Now, heres the problem, I haven't been on holiday in a while, I want to be slimmer when we do, but also all my super beautiful holiday clothes that aren't suitable for this country are a size 16.
I don't want to waste money on more, I want to fit into my size 16s.
Had anyone managed such a massive goal before? I am 5ft 8 and carry my weight quite well.
I think I'd have to lose a stone a month to reach my goal in time Confused

A very significant weight loss is definitely achieveable. What would really help with the sizes would be exercise though. A lot of people I know (albeit on SW) have lost 4-8 stone in six months. Good luck xx

Sorry just realised this was calorie counting 😀 Using mfp based on your weight and height you should be able to eat a good amount and get a good loss. I'm 5'3 and 11st4.5 want to be 9. If I eat up to 1200 a day I usually lose 2-3 a week, lots of fruit and veg. I do combine with SW though, find it achievable by cutting snacks

MsHopey · 29/12/2017 06:39

My fitness pal puts me on 1600 calories a day, and I was hoping to do 30 minutes of step aerobics a day. Working it round a clingy 5 month old, so fingers crossed I can manage it during nap time or when he's feeling happy playing on his own. Also going to try and get some fresh air with the pushchair.
It's also my sister's wedding when I come back from holiday, and I'm a bridesmaid, so lots of reasons to do this!

30 mins of step aerobics isn't going to do enough. Is there anyone who can be with the baby in the evening? Running is the way to lose serious weight (if you are sticking to mfp). If you don't run, couch to 5k is really good, then parkrun if you can, depending on childcare.

LEMtheoriginal · 29/12/2017 07:04

I went from 22 to 16 in a similar time frame OP. Using mfp. So it's definitely doable.

I tend to agree 're the 30 min aerobics though. I found the weight dropped much ore when I was running. Also what are you doing daily? I work ft in a relatively active role so I am trying to achieve 10k steps daily. Yesterday I did less than 2k Blush and that wasn't a particularly lazy day. I think running with your heart rate just 10% -20% above the resting is far better than a high impact exercise in short bursts. So the high impact might burn more calories but owner impact sustained burns more fat - at least that is what my fitbit says. So I'd abandon the aerobics in favour of long walks - better for your ds too.

I need to diet again as I've put on so much over Xmas but I feel confident that it's achievable.

LEMtheoriginal · 29/12/2017 07:06

Owner impact??? Lower impact - i think my predictive text is a twat

I did this about 4 years ago - lost 4 1/2 stone in 6 months and went from 22 to 16. I felt absolutely brilliant. I have since put it all back on with an extra half stone for good measure Hmm.

However, am intending to try again in January, although now have pre-menopause to add to the mix!

I used MFP to absolutely religiously count calories, cut out snacks of any form, did 10,000 steps a day, and was doing at least 3 sessions a week at a Curves gym. My mental attitude however was the thing that made the difference - I have not been able to get back to that 'headspace' again so will make a real effort in January because I remember just how FANTASTIC I felt having lost the weight and got fit before.

So, yes, it can be done!

MsHopey · 29/12/2017 07:34

My husband is a gym freak and because of that I do have a treadmill. I can get some running on that. I do have a fitbit and get 5000 steps done a day, but literally just walking round my flat, so not high intensity or any steep gradients. I want to do some more walking to get the baby out the house. I'm on maternity leave at the moment and drive, so I don't get much exercise.
I've used MFP in the past and did really well and did manage to lose quite a bit, but I was silly and didn't keep it off.
I'm glad so many others have managed to achieve such a good weight loss in the past. Maybe it's something I can achieve it again.

30 minutes a day exercise and a walk with the buggy a day is plenty of exercise. Weight loss comes more from food restriction than exercise.
Mix up the exercise so you don’t get bored. Davina’s DVD’s are good. So is Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. They’re mostly 30 mins or less too.

BigGreenOlives · 29/12/2017 07:44

As you become fitter you’ll be able to do exercises like push ups & squats that will help you build muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat and is more compact so looks better. Sadly the expression ‘You can’t out train a bad diet is true’. Good luck! (Not sarcastic, just trying to be positive).

Iamtheresurrection · 29/12/2017 07:48

Can you buy hand weights or kettle bells? Weight based exercise will probably be more effective for burning fat. Loads of routines on Pinterest and YouTube.

ihave2naughtydogs · 29/12/2017 07:56

Jillian Micheals 30 day shred will help you tone up rapidly alongside a healthy eating plan . Its less than 30 minutes a day but it's tough . It's on YouTube

Avocado0nToast · 29/12/2017 08:10

I've just lost 30lb in 3 months using MFP. Just being really honest about what was going in my mouth and learning to balance what I'm eating. I do the odd spinning class and quite a lot of walking so not spending ages in the gym! I liked it as it showed exactly how many calories for my weight/height. I was 5'8 and a size 18. So yes OP I think you could make a significant difference in 6 months! Go for it!!

CiderwithBuda · 29/12/2017 08:55

You can definitely make a huge difference in that time. It's the mental side that is the hardest I find.

There are lots of various weight loss threads on here that can be really supportive. BIWI's low carb bootcamp is really popular and works well for lots of people although having tried it a few times I have found it doesn't suit me. And there is obviously Weight Watchers and Slimming World and and as others have said MFP.

I have just signed up for a Facebook based Bootcamp six week programme. It's run by a girl who has a Blog called Fat Girl Getting Fit. I signed up for the last one but didn't stick with it but those that did had some really great results. Its four pounds a week and you pay for the six weeks up front. She sends a meal plan every week and exercises. I found the food really good but it does involve cooking from scratch rather than depending on processed foods. New programme starts on Jan second. For some reason my number key isn't working in my iPad so I'm having to use words instead of numbers! I'm not normally that weird!

mommathatwearspink · 02/01/2018 17:17

You can definitely do it!
I'll happily be your buddy as I'm also trying to loose for my holiday in June. Haven't been away since before I had DD and I had DS in April last year. I've put 5st on since I last went away and want to loose as much as possible before I go away again!

I did my Fitness Pal and lost 10 pounds I still think that calories in and out makes sense and works For me I feel hungrier on one day than another and crave particular healthy foods. I've a broken toe, and joint, at present and crave protein I've lost 3 pounds in 2 weeks eating when I want but with reduced carbs.
