Is it weird to carry on buying maternity clothes after pregnancy?

So post pregnancy I am actually bigger in terms of hips and bum than when I was pregnant. I am fairly resigned to this as I figure I need the calories to breastfeed, and I'd like to have more babies in the future so I may just be a bit of a fatty while my body does all these amazing things...

I am struggling to get into my JoJo maternity jeans so was thinking I would just go up a size, but then I realised it is sort of weird to be buying maternity clothes still. To put in context DS is 12 weeks old, and I'm not pregnant or planning to be for a couple of years. I'm just so enormous (size 12-14 which I know isn't that enormous, but feels it in terms of my pre-pregnancy clothes which are most size 8 and 10 skinny jeans... Can't even get them past my knees!) and I like that maternity jeans are at least comfortable.

Does anyone else do this??

Not sure I've posted this in the right section btw so if there's a better one do let me know.

Not bought any new clothes but I understand what you mean.

My daughter is almost 10 weeks old and I'm having to live in pj's or my old maternity clothes still. My thighs ballooned whilst pregnant and haven't gone back down, I bought some normal clothes in bigger sizing (size 14) to my pre-pregnancy size (size 10) which fit over my thighs but then are way too big around my tummy. Thus I find myself wearing the same 2 pairs of maternity trousers all the time.

Not sure how long I can get away with doing it! I am exclusively breastfeeding (via expressed breast milk) and I've been told I'm not allowed to diet or attempt to lose weight as my daughter was premature and she needs the extra calories but it's really getting me down.

Thanks for your reply - it is hard isn't it. I was back down to half a stone above my pre-preg weight 2 weeks after DS was born and was so excited, but breastfeeding has made me pile on so much more weight! Am now the same weight as when I was 40 weeks pg, and that's without the baby in there!

Still, I do feel that I am more accepting of my current size atm, and have decided to find ways of looking fatter and fabulous... Even if it means sneaking some elasticated waistbands into my wardrobe ;) found some mat jeans on eBay for £2, yay!

Maybe post in Style&Beauty to see where you can buy clothes that are comfy. My DD is 2 and I often wear preg t-shirts just not the ruched type Grin
Prem babies not withstanding from a personal perspective I wish I'd made more of an effort to lose the baby weight. I piled on pounds when bfing. It wrecks your self esteem! Do your best to lose it, if you need to buy borrow more clothes in the meantime then so be it .

Treadsoftly - I'm hoping when I stop bf-ing the weight will drop off fairly quickly, as others have said this might be the case, but I agree that in the meantime I want to be careful not to get too enormous through overeating. Am enjoying having a bigger appetite but am trying to swap cake for fruit in the next few weeks so that even if my additional weight stays the same it doesn't increase too much more. I will check out the other thread too. Thanks x

In my experience, it doesn't. Not unless you change your diet and start doing a lot of exercise. Obviously you have lots of time for that sort of thing as a mum of a small child Sad

My advice would to be to not buy the bigger jeans. With all the BFing, with some smarter food choices than I made you should be able to get into your mat jeans at least within two weeks. Winter is coming with all it's lovely stodgy food, get the baby in the pram and get out and walk if off if necessary. Grin

Sorry - I knew what I needed to do, and didn't. Bitterly regretting it now. I'm older with two rounds of baby weight and it's even harder now.
