Hi just wondering if anyone has had experience with negative calorie food and if so what their thoughts were?

It's a myth I'm afraid. No foods burn more calories than they contain (if that's what you mean?).

MelanieCheeks · 13/06/2014 15:49

Noooo, there's no point going down that road!

Some food has very low calories - correct. It is good to eat plenty of those. But getting into a plus and minus calculation of how many calories are used in digesting the foods is just madness.

Marking my place, I need to know about negative calorie food and unicorns

my dp has a theory that bran flakes are so labour-intensive in terms of chewing that it burns the calories you consume

Makes complete sense to me, Willie, on the shopping list they go.

Technically, though, that makes them a zero calorie food, which is a good start. I am interested in negative calorie food. What could I possibly eat to erase the Frappuccino I had earlier today? That's around -300 kcal I need to find somewhere.... Wink

You could eat your own leg

MelanieCheeks · 13/06/2014 17:09

I think that's called Ex-Er-Cise.

Really sorry Spring to totally derail, but I think you get the gist of what people make of negative calorie food Grin

I've done it before-made the majority of my diet salads and veg, usually in order to lose weight before an event, quickly. It works.

It is a myth if you take it literally, because a food on a 'negative calorie' list DOES contain calories. However some foods have so few, that the process of digesting them burns off more-they're basically just very low calorie foods. And making them the majority of your diet will result in weight loss.
Not something to be done long term, though-not enough nutrients.
Weight loss can be achieved if you change your diet to make one of your meals predominantly negative calorie (having a large green salad for lunch for example).

No such thing.

The common myth is celery, but that is only true because of the digestion, not the actual consumption.
