Hi all

I've really tried to avoid calorie counting as it can drive me a bit nuts. I was on a very low carb (

I ate all sorts of crap when I was on MFP and lost weight. You have to be careful and brutally honest about it though as things like chocolate and cake use up big chunks of your allowance so you may find yourself feeling hungry as a result.

MFP is good in that you get a good idea of which nutrients you're taking in, so you can see if you are carb or protein heavy.

It's hard work though, esp of you cook from scratch a lot, but if you can stick to the religious logging very helpful. I can't deal with logging all the meals from scratch (esp as I change them so much) so am on hiatus from it.

I have recently realised that when I don't eat what I really fancy, I just snack looking for that satisfied feeling.

Sometimes it's a healthy meal other times it's a crisp sandwich and a kitkat. I also use nap my fitness and use a weekly calorie alowence rather than daily so I never get the guilt from a bit of a splurge.

I'm 5"4 and currently 9st 7lb and hoping to lose a few pounds for holiday with 5:2. It's working for me.

Thanks BankWadger :) 20g carbs a day was just so a strict that to be honest I'm looking forward to just a massive bowl of vegetable soup or a mixed bean salad!! I know to still watch very carefully. But I like the idea that I can actually have a little something when I meet with a couple of friends every week at Starbucks Grin

It's all about the calories. If you eat fewer calories than you use up you will lose weight. If you eat more, funnily enough you put on weight.

ATM I'm trying to consume no more than14000 calories a day and eat bananas, jacket potatoes, wholemeal bread, muesli etc. I'm never hungry and have lost 8lb in the last month.

9st7 is a great weight kinkymouse! I'm 5ft5 and I actually don't weight myself (control issues in my 20s!) but I wear a size 10-12 bottom and usually a 10 top so I suppose I just want to lose the last few vanity pounds and get back into a size 8-10 :)

Yep. When I need to lose a few pounds I use weight loss resources (similar to mfp but I prefer it) to calorie count and eat whatever I like. I will say though that I find sugar makes me want more sugar and eating calorie rich foods leaves me hungry for the rest of the day as it uses up too much of my allowance. But it gives me the flexibility to eat whatever I feel like and that works for me.

Ahh this is all good to know Smilejust knowing I can has a big bowl of vegetable soup and a sandwich is heaven. Oh low carb. How brainwashed you had me.

Big bowls of veg soup are the best way to loose weight. Low calorie and filling! Smile

HeyJules · 24/05/2014 08:37

I agree LynetteScavo! But they're a big no-no on very low carb diets HmmHmm can't believe I even stick it out for almost 9 months

I've read a few very mind boggling things on here about carbs written by people who have lost sight of the fact that carbs aren't all made the same. Overly refined carbs are bad especially in the quantities pushed on us by big food producers (plastic bread, chocolate, sugar filled meals etc) whereas unrefined/low refined carbs including fruit and veg, whole meal flour etc are good for you. Shock horror sugar cane in it's natural form is alright for you!

That said I do like a good salt and vinegar crisp sandwich on fluffy bread occasionally Grin
