Is it normal to feel so s*** on a diet?

I've recently started a diet (again!), would like to lose some weight before my holiday in August, and ideally lose about 2 stone altogether.
The problem is...(and this is the thing that makes me give up, time and time again)...that I feel so terrible on a diet. I'm so tired I can barely talk, my brain doesn't seem to think normally - it seems all "fuzzy", my arms and legs feel weak and heavy and it's such an effort to do anything. Even my eyes seem sore, I just want to shut them! All I really want to do is lie around all day!!
I know everyone feels a bit crap on a diet but I'm sure that how I feel is not not totally normal, my friend was on a v low cal diet last year and she seemed her normal, chatty self!
I have been a bit iron deficient in the past so am taking iron tablets and having approx. 1300 cals per day, so why do I feel this terrible??

I usually feel better when I am on a diet. Have you been to the Dr lately? I would be inclined to get this checked out maybe for thyroid or iron deficiency.

I'm diabetic and massively overweight and I find when I'm eating less I feel tired, cranky and tearful a lot; it takes my body a while to adjust to the new normal. Could you try and work through the crappiness and see if it eases in a couple of weeks?

Also, what are you eating?

I think it's best to ease yourself in to start with. Because I sometimes go from eating quite a bit to a 1200 calorie plan I start by having breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, tea, snack (snacks have to be sensible) and then I find after 3-4 weeks I'm not craving the snacks like I did at the beginning. If you feel weak you might not be eating enough calories, for example if you walk during the day and burn 200 cals you can eat those 200 cals back. I also make sure I'm having a good mix of carbs, protein and (healthy) fat. I always lower my carbs but can't cut them completely because it leaves me feeling weak and snappy.

Snack favourites are : muller light yogurt, fruit, dried fruit, plain nuts, Ryvita with a little Philadelphia etc

I started slimming world last week and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. The first day was really hard but I've really got into the swing of it.

I have to say I feel great, more energy , I don't feel as tired (even though I have a newborn and a toddler).

Why not aim for a higher amount of calories, so you can sustain it?

I'm currently on 1900 calories a day and losing 0.5lb a week. All right, it'll take me 6 months to lose a stone, but at least I can get on with life without feeling all wobbly and grumpy.

Myfitnesspal is a good tracker... And you have a smartphone, you get to blip the barcodes of what you've eaten
