Caffeine intake questions

I need to lose about 7lbs, so am planning on MFP and some decent exercise. A few people have told me I need to stop drinking coffee...why? I have skimmed milk, no sugar (sometimes a sweetner), but what is so wrong with drinking coffee? Friends tell me it adds weight on; I thought caffeine speeded up your heart rate which in turn burns more calories?
Is the same true for diet drinks?
I do possibly drink too much coffee every day, but if not drinking it helps with the weight loss, then I can (hopefully) cut down or switch to decaf!

Green tea is supposed to help you lose weight and it has caffeine in it.

However a quick Google tells you that the jury is somewhat out on coffee. Studies say too much is linked to weight gain. I would say, in moderation and NOT instead of water. As well as.

Well really you shouldn't drink too much coffee anyway as it seriously dehydrates you. For every cup of coffee you drink you have to then drink 2 glasses of water to replace fluids. So maybe change your thinking from diet to lifestyle choice and limit your intake.

Drink a lot of water to get rid of the dehydrating effect but other than that I'd keep drinking coffee. If you deprive yourself of too many things at once the diet will be harder to stick to.

If you regularly have caffeine, coffee does not dehydrate you. In fact, unless coffee gives you the jitters, it has short and long term benefits: improved concentration, better endurance taken before exercise, prevention of dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, diabetes and some cancers. If you enjoy coffee, drink in moderation (up to 4 cups a day). Coffee is chocablock with antioxidants, and taken with milk, you've the added benefit of calcium. I've already had two cups by the school run!

I would agree, give up coffee or just have a morning brew and move on to other hot beverages. It is obviously not the calories that is the problem here. But I think it leads to some sort of spike, like it leaves you a bit wired, so of course what you need to balance that out is a nice bit of chocolate. I think it depletes you a bit.

I gave up having too many filter coffees from Pret, replace with Green and Jasmine tea from H& Barrett, it is peppy and soothing, it feels like it is wreaking less havoc on my insulin levels, but I am not exactly blinding you with science here. But I think it does deplete your vitamins or something.
