Hi Tmallett,

Can you try swimming. Please don't be put off by body image. The water will take the pressure off your joints, so it's a great one for stamina building.

Also, if you can even go for a short walk each day, remember that with the amount of weight you are carrying that is a real feat and equivalent to a thin person going for a very long walk. Just try to add 100 steps per day and build up from there.

Try and be more active in small ways - stretch, bend, use weights to do arm lifts; be the one who hoists themselves out of the chair at ad break to make a cup of tea or answer the phone/doorbell. Walk into same room as DC to speak to them instead of hollering through the house. I know these sound negligible, but you are carrying a lot of weight so even the smallest exertion will have a massive impact on your health and will burn up lots of calories.

Make a list of lots of rewards and give yourself one each day you stick to the diet or increase your exercise. Can be anything from buying a new accessory or bit of make up, to watching a favourite dvd, through to big stuff like buying new clothes/getting hair cut when you reduce a size.

A friend of mine says she goes to bed every night and last thing she does is think of all the things she loves about being slim and fit and healthy. Then when she wake sup she does the same, so it never feels like a chore to her to lose weight, as she really focuses hard on the benefits and good stuff.

Drink loads of water, eat loads of veg - but you know that already!

Me too OP.

I am about 7 stone overweight.
I am going to go swimming every day, I have started trying to walk as much as possible, and I have started a diet today.

Have you thought about joining a weight loss club - I always do better with groups but can't afford it at the moment so am having to do it myself.

Plan your meals, try and make sure all snacks are under 100 kcals etc etc.

good luck!

Tmallett92 · 18/11/2013 20:48

thankyou so much for your comments :) I do occasionally go swimming but I can't afford it, same with the weight loss clubs, way too expensive! But I try to walk every day and do as much as I can, I just feel so exhausted with the smallest things!

Once you start eating well you'll have loads more energy!! We c an spur eachother on :D

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 18/11/2013 22:11

When you're as heavy as you are OP, you don't need to exercise to lose weight.
I'd concentrate on following a diet for a few months at least, until you've lost enough to make exercising more comfortable.

iklboo · 18/11/2013 22:19

Ask your GP if he can prescribe gym membership (local authority) or slimming group sessions. My MIL was prescribed Weight Watchers course, and the Slimming World Woman of the Year was also prescribed the cost if 12 sessions to get her kick started.

iklboo · 18/11/2013 22:20

Sorry, meant he/she about your GP.

Fairy1303 · 20/11/2013 17:37

How's it going op? I'm in the gym and went swimming on sunday and monday. How are things with you?

Tmallett92 · 20/11/2013 18:36

Fairy1303 · 20/11/2013 19:04

Ahhh I'm so sorry to hear that. Don't be disheartened - you are under stress and we've all gorged when going through bad times! If you feel like jumping back on it - remember one bad day is not worth ruining the week - tomorrow will be a new day.

If you don't feel like, don't beat yourself up. Start when you are feeling better :).

LaundryLegoLunch · 20/11/2013 19:21

Try to remember that you don't really feel better after eating that stuff tomorrow. It feels good at the moment you eat it but not for much longer.

To lose weight I agree with other posters who say concentrate on diet. I think lots of people (incl me in the past) believed if I did a bit of swimming I could still eat lots. You can't. I've lost over 3 stones this year doing no exercise at all.

You have to accept a few things ;

You'll feel hungry sometimes, but (assuming no significant medical issues) you will survive hunger.

You cannot eat things like chocolate/biscuits/crisps a lot. It doesn't matter if your size 8 best mate does - you can't.

You are probably eating too much at every meal. Cut your normal portion in half. You will probably not even notice.

It is hard. It is bloody hard. You have to be strict with yourself. If its your birthday ok have a pig out but not because "it's raining/I feel sad/my kids are playing up" etc.

I weigh myself every day. The scales may fluctuate a little bit but if you're not seeing at least 1 or 2 lbs a week then you're not being strict. The scales do not lie.

And more than anything, remember how you feel at this weight. No one else but you can change this. No one else chooses what you put in your mouth.

Keep repeating "Losing weight is hard. Being fat is hard. Choose your hard".

I only know this because I've done it this year after years and years of being fat and miserable. I promise if you can just grit your teeth and get through two months you'll feel awesome.

Good luck! You can do it!

LaundryLegoLunch · 20/11/2013 19:24

OP sorry I've just realised it might seem like my "I feel a bit sad" comment might be misconstrued. I didn't mean to belittle your grief at all. I was talking about normal day to day mini sadness not something like losing a friend.

I'm sorry for your loss

Fairy1303 · 20/11/2013 19:25

Have you looked at transform pics on instagram - it's great motivation!

You could plan your meals for the rest of the week - I'm all about the control.

Tmallett92 · 21/11/2013 11:29

laundry - I realised you weren't being rude it's fine I needed a kick in the right direction. and thankyou everyone else for your support. I will do this.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 21/11/2013 11:45

I've done it too - not ten stone, but several stone.

I eat when I'm bored.
I live to eat - I love food, I love cooking, I love eating out and I love entertaining.

I have become a bit anti-social, and try to refuse all social events where food is involved.
It is SO hard to not just have a biscuit when I get in from work - unbelievably hard. And food is being advertised everywhere, constantly.

I also find it hard to understand something that is really easy to type: eating left overs when I've already eaten a meal is just as wasteful as putting the food in the bin. Why do I think it's more economical to put rubbish inside of me, rather than bin it?

Take one day at a time. Weigh every morning. Once you start losing a few pounds, it's a great motiviation to lose some more.

I genially believe I can help you. I started the challenge through a friend who was promoting the system. I have a friend who is 6 stone overweight, she has a back problem that needs surgery and needs to loose the weight before they will operate. I am helping her and thought I could help others too.

If you can't afford a weight loss 'club' have a look at the weight loss clubs on here.

I've used one 'losing the stones one guinea pig at a time'. Which has been hugely supportive during my weight loss journey. I've list nearly 4stone since June and now have a healthy bmi. There are lots of people there who are trying/in the process of losing a lot of weight.

As for what to actually do? Cut out processed food, reduce your carbs and up your veg with every meal. You'll soon find you can cut your whole portion size as veg keeps you fuller longer. Try not to snack. If you want to snack drink a pint of water instead. If you still want it in half an hour then have it but have a small portion of whatever it is.

I truly believe if you try and cut out all 'bad' food you will slip up and gorge. You need to learn moderation.

I'm sorry for your loss and hope you can get back to your weight loss journey soon. Good luck.

Eh? Why was my post deleted???

SeptemberFlowers · 23/11/2013 15:40

I'll join you. I'm to scared to get on the scales Blush but I know I have to as some point.

I'm keeping a blog of how I feel and really think that I should download a calorie counter or something to help keep track of what I am eating.

We can do it !
