School not doing anything

On 19th Nov my 7 yr old was pushed over and knocked out in the playground at school. He suffered a severe concussion was in hospital for 3 days, having cat scans etc. I had to send him back to school on Friday 27th as doctors note ran out on 26th. The school were given the information from the head injuries nurse that he is not to do pe or run around for at least 3 weeks. Also that my son has retrograde amnesia and will probably never remember the facial features of person that did it. I've narrowed down that where it happened it had to be a yr 6 kid. The school didn't call an ambulance, have refused to meet with me over this, and only by phoning every department of the local authority have they been told they have to give me a copy of the H&S reprt they submitted (which by law I should have seen BEFORE submission). I got the report it's full of inaccuracies, and downright falsehoods, Head is refusing to meet with me or even book a solid appointment to see me, there's no other local schools with space for both my children, the school are trying to mae out he tripped on paving slabs. I'm now left with a 7 yr old, who is normally one of the school's 'star pupils' (he's 3 yrs ahead of his peer group in most areas) who I'm having to drag kicking and screaming to school when he's saying he's not safe there. He's absolutely petrified, and the school won't do anything. Sorry for long post, desperately need help, board of governers don't get any complaints as you have to hand them in to the office, and TASCC and the LA are saying that as the schools are 'self regulating' there is no other course of action. WHAT do I do???

Have been in a very similar situation as you are in at the moment. I chose to declare war after being given a namby pamby run around. It's a hard route, but good things can be achieved if you stick to your guns and go about it in the right way.

Good for you for getting those letters sent.

If your worried about letters being passed on to the governors, put them in a manilla evelope with a printed label.. and post it to the school.

for you and your DS, this situation is appauling. The school had and still have a ' duty of care' for your DS.. and from what you have posted they are failing in that duty.

with regard to your ds's anxiety, pop along and have a chat with your GP, they can and will help or refer you to people who can help.
whether you move schools or not these emotional issues could follow your ds about.. so much better to get some help now for him.

Remember to keep and copy all letters sent and recieved. And if you go into meetings eith take minutes yourself or take someone to do this for you. Ask the school for a copy of minutes from each meeting yu have, check these against yours and send in ammendents to be aded if there is anything that does not corrispond.

Hth somewhat.

also want to add.. it is helpful to have a ist of concise complaints/ issues and what you would like to happen or the outcome to be with regard to each issue.

it will help keep your mind focused and your head clear. Also if you feel yourself boiling during any meetings.. breathe in count to ten and then think about what you want to say in response. It's very easy to let steam and come across all emotional and wrong.

If your feeling overrun in any meeting.. there is the little trick of mirroring the main speakers body language for a bit, then changing yours.. when they mirror you back you are in control and they are more likey to agree with you. thus much more likey to get what you want, get them to agree with you or relax a little and be a bit more friendly.

It's just difficult, as the situation is so stressful, and stress makes my epilepsy worse, so I'm more likely to have more absence seizures, and not take in all that's said, so the fact that they wont book an appointment where I can have someone go with me is just unreasonable. Handed the letter in yesterday, heard absolutely nothing today, not from the office or from the headteacher. Really really annoyed, am about to buy some nuclear warheads on the black market.....WAR HAS BEEN DECLARED!!

Errr he's probably filed it in the same place he alway files my letters....under 'B' for bin....either way, I've to give him 2 weeks from the date of the letter then put in a letter of complaint to the Board of governors...Then give them 2 weeks, then it'll be the LA!!

God I hate to have to follow indeterminately long, unnecessary slow 'procedures' that take forever for you to actually get to someone who will actually do something!!! Wrapping me in red tape...at this rate, they can stick a bloody bow on me and stick me under the LA's tree....
