Shall I give up and home school?

I'm sick of my daughter being bullied and I'm sick of the school not supporting her for her autism and mental health.
I have tried everything to get the school to sort out the bullying and have now escalated it to the governors.
The bullies are crafty though, they spin things so my daughter ends up blaming herself, and they have begun picking on her on her way home. School say it's a police matter after 3, police say no it's schools responsibility especially if they are all at the same school and all in uniform but school drag their feet about doing anything.
I'm on the verge of giving up work and home schooling because I simply can't bear seeing my daughter in so much pain she'd rather die than go to school.
So I suppose I'm asking should I just remove her and home school or see what the governors do? She's is currently sat cuddling my husband crying her eyes out about Monday.
She is 11 and in Y7.

Huge hugs. Can you get to a supportive school anywhere within reach? Homeschool is extraordinarily hard.

This school was recommended by primary school as supportive and good for children with special needs. Unfortunately the year my daughter started they got a new head and I think he may have changed things as our experience so far has been awful.
There are 2 other local schools one of which is basically a last chance school for those who have been expelled and the other is exam based. My daughter is struggling a bit academically as well so not sure she'd get in there.
Perhaps we need to look further afield, it's just so hard to see your child hurting. I long for those days when I could make everything better with a kiss and cuddle.

Sounds just like what we are going through with my hf asd son in yr 8. He has very few friends (he only friends with kids that he has seen to be nice, and work hard, thankfully will not follow a crowd).
He has been bullied by the same kids since he started y7. Now we just get told that he hasn’t reported anything, so they didn’t know. Well he was put into isolation last week (first time ever and he was mortified), he retaliated and punched one of the bullies. Of course, when statements were taken, there were more on the bullies’ side and only my son and his friend to say what happened.
His mental health is suffering and he becomes withdrawn and quiet and will just take himself off to bed. We seem to be going round in circles. They know this little thug is a bully, he does it to some other kids too. Wondering wether to change school (on EHCP) and go to a specialist hf ASD school. That would involve a taxi to and from there every day for about a 40 min journey each way.
He’s a bright boy, he has an excellent report from all subjects and is in top set for quite a few subjects.
(Feel a bit better now I have had a rant, thx!)

OP, how is your daughter?

Charlyse · 05/02/2021 23:58

I have my son with autism. He has not been bullied yet but I was wondering if the best way to help him is to teach him how to react when bullied. Working on self esteem and ways to talk back instead of running away because it might happen again elsewhere.
Sorry for my english, i am French
What do you think?

Home school is extraordinarily hard Mummyeyes? I can assure you OP that
Home Education (which is how it is referred to) is a breath of fresh air in comparison to your child being tormented at school. The governors have no say whatsoever.

Education is and is always the responsibility of the parent but the 'norm' that we have become accustomed to is to pass that responsibility onto school.

There is nothing to stop you deregistering (a letter with receipt from the school or email) telling them, not asking, that you are removing your DD from school and they are legally obliged to remove her from the register and inform the LA themselves. They cannot drag you into talk to them and everything can be kept in writing. Hopefully they will actually support you and your DD though. Parents do seem to be bullied into the notion that school is the only way. We'll it doesn't suit plenty of children. There are thousands or children in the UK that now thrive away from school both health and education wise.

I cannot understand the mindset of keeping a child in such a hostile environment just because "Children have to go to school, that's what you do". Home education coild be exactly what your DD needs in order to heal and flourish.

School will always be there if she wants to return. Mental health is absolutely the most important factor here and always should be. Try joining the Home Education groups on FB. You'll get a lot of support on there. I hope your DD is okay and things start to look up 💐

My yr7 son suffers from anxiety and school refusal. I deregistered him in October. Secondary was a nightmare. I have now registered him in an online school and so far so good. Lots of the kids have dyxlexia, autism or anxiety.
