My daughter just started y7. She had a very difficult time at primary school. I'm sorry I'm trying to give a bit of background but I feel ill with stress. At her new school, there are few people who were with dd at her old school. One girl used to be a very good friend of dd but since secondary school has started she gave dd the cold shoulder and excluding dd a bit. When I see that girl in the street now, she never says hi or just when I'm about to say hi, she is looking deeply at her phone. Rude but still fine.

This morning I got a text message from dd saying : why did you call old friend a bitch ??? Her friend shouted at me and they all ganged up on me ! Why did you have to call her a bitch ???

I never did that, never. What should I do ? I want to go to see the parents (I know them) and nip it in the bud. Is it the right thing ??

No, the best thing is to let school deal with it. Arrange a meeting with the head of year or form tutor to talk about what’s going on.

Did they say this to your daughter whilst at school? How well do you know the family?

I would give the school a chance to sort it, but if my child was cornered or bullied one more time, I would deal with it myself.

If you are friends with the parents I would give them the courtesy of telling them what happened, reassure them that you have never called their daughter a bitch and let them know that you are considering going to the school. Nip it in the bud. The success of this will be in the way you approach the parents and your tone of voice.

@NingNang. Yes I agree if you do speak to parents approach calmly. You will come off the better person.
