I went back to work last week. DD2 is 9 months old. I have a second hand elvie that worked ok, I was never good at pumping but I managed to get a total of 7-8oz a day from a couple sessions.

Now the pump died 😥 It is stressful as I am using it daily so my husband can feed the baby. New elvie is way too expensive. I am thinking to try a hand pump. Is it worth even trying or is it not much better than hand expressing? Considering even with elvie it was a bit of a struggle for me.

Thank you!

It's very possible that the reason you have struggled to pump is the evie isn't meant for lots of use.
Is look at an ardo, amedea or a medela. Not hand free. Aiming for a closed system if you are wanting to buy second hand. Also look for ones where you can change the flange size.

I used pipetta pumps to exclusively pump for my first, slightly bulkier but hugely cheaper (and they keep emailing me about Black Friday offers!)

I was also going to say pippetta, I had a Phillips hand pump with my first child but got a hands free electric pippetta with my second - I found it much easier to find time to pump!

@DrJump oh I didnt know that about elvie. Second hand ones are being sold for decent amount... it thought it was supposed to be good quality

I have hand expressed. Its just that it takes a long time and I have to be in a very uncomfortable position (tiny boobs!). I get quite bad back ache if I do it for long stretches several times a day...
