Haakaa help!

I love my haakaa!
It's so convenient to use while feeding and I get a great supply out of it. However, recently upon sterilising in boiling water (which I do after every use-not sure if I'm meant to?) there has been a white film all over the haakaa! I can remove it with my finger so I presume mineral deposits? My question is, can I just use hot soapy water to remove this, or should I just keep sterilising it the way I am doing and using it with the film which I'm not inclined to do- would rather set up my medela pump!

Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you

You've got to wash it with soapy water (and a cloth/sponge!) before you sterilise it. Sterilising won't actually get the fat off from the milk

You don't need to sterilise it, but yes wash in hot, soapy water.

You need to clean it with hot soapy water and give it a clean with a bottle brush to get then you can pop it in the steriliser.

Hiya, yes I have washed in hot soapy water before sterilising haha, I then sterilise it in boiling water and white deposit is left :)

I've read that elsewhere but wanted someone else's opinion, thank you. Do you know why we don't need to sterilise it?

Breast milk just doesn't require sterilisation the same way formula does due to its make-up.

But NHS in England at least still advise sterilising. In Scotland, the advice has changed (it was new advice in 2019 when I had DD) and I imagine will take some time to filter down. But the Scottish advice is here:
