I took 15w DD to HV weighing clinic today. She now weighs 16.5lb and has gone from 75th to jjust below 98th centile in 6wks. HV said we needed to keep an eye on this and I should get her weighed more often to monitor her excessive weight gsin. I had been going every 3 or 4 weeks. DD is ebf. Should I worry?

Really? She made out DD was a right heiffer!! I was getting a bit guilty about her triple chins and rolls of fat on her arms!

If she is ebf then she is exactly the right size.

DS2 is a chubbler and the rolls of fat are just so squeezable.

It isn't like you can force a baby to BF. If they don't want it they simply don't do it.

so should I just keep taking her every 4 wks or so? I don't want to "get into trouble" with them or rock the boat [likes a quiet life and hates conflict emoticon]

Really? I was sort of under the impression they'd send heavies round if we didn't go lol.

what did the dietician say btw?

I don't go at all.

Haven't seen the HV since 3 weeks, DS is 15 weeks now.

NotQuiteCockney · 08/07/2010 17:03

Current best practice is, if a baby regains birth weight by two weeks, then they should be weighed whenever they're in for a routine check up or for their jabs.

cantthinkofagoodname · 08/07/2010 17:08

I asked how often I should go a few weeks ago and was told at least every 4 weeks minimum. Does it vary from area to area?

Oh and DD didn't regain birthweight until 3 weeks if that makes a difference (was 9.5lb at birth)

Only go if you want to/have questions/concerns. Personally I can see that DS is bright and well and huge and sleeping well etc, I don't need any support so can't be arsed really.

LOL at the HV. Is she going to put your 15 wk old DD on a diet? I would put on a straight face and ask her very seriously if there is anything you can eat or drink that will transform your breastmilk from Gold Top to Skimmed.

My DS1 went up and down the centiles before finally settling on 75 at around 8 months old. Have no idea about DS2 because I never bothered getting him weighed after the first few weeks.

Ignore. I wouldn't say stop going particularly if it's your first child as it's nice to maintain some sort of contact with HCPs in the unlikely event of any problems but, I think you can ignore her on this one. She probably knows she's talking bollocks but is working to strict policy guidelines regarding suspected child obesity etc.

cantthinkofagoodname · 08/07/2010 20:14

She did tell me last time I went (DD was 12 weeks) to space out feeds to every 4hrs at night and no more (DD feeds every 2-3hrs usually at night) I ignored her though LOL.

I never took either of mine to be weighed. They were obviously happy and healthy; there was no point at all in faffing around with weighing scales and HVs. Give it a miss altogether.
