When DD1 reached 2 I think we just went cold turkey, though we did talk a while beforehand about the bottle fairy and how she leaves a gift behind and she takes the bottles, 16m might be a bit young for that though.

I would suggest just giving water and saying the milks all gone but you;ll buy some more in the morning.

In my experience all these kind of things took about 2 weeks to get through, the only thing I'd say is be consistant - once you decide no more, don;t give in as she'll find it confusing - good luck

Just don't give her any! At 16 months she can go all night. You are the mug here perpetuating this.

Take the bottles away, tell her no more bottles and leave an anyway up cup of water in the cot uncase she is thirsty.

Another idea is to get rid of the bottles, as no need after 12 months and offer the milk during the night in an any way up cup - much harder to drink and less comforting so she might not bother?

it's hot, she's thirsty. Introduce an anyway up cup in the day, and leave it full of water at all times, and encourage her to find it. Then put it in her cot at night - leave a night light on - and she'll find it herself.

milk is now "all gone"

Oh she'll go nuts but its more about you being ready than her! Once you take the milk away don';t bring it back - agree with the anyway up cups with water, it'll take a couple of weeks and she'll be fine

Of course she'll go crackers. But you need your sleep too and you need to be firm. You might have a couple of really bad nights but she will eventually get the message. if you cave in you'll be faced with the same problem later and the older they get the more stubborn.

Mine was bottle fed and was on cups of cow's milk by 11 months (didn't tell the HV that mind). Just stopped bottles as she was capable of drinking from a cup. Had a last drink before bedtime and no more until morning.

When she first stopped night feed, she would wake up, but just needed some comforting to go back to sleep - definitely not actually hungry.

At 16 months, I agree with others on here that she doesn't need night feeds and it's just a comfort thing. Some people are fine with that and enjoy it etc, but toddlers of that age don't need it.
