In how long a period? That;s about 12 floz I think.

FionaSH · 29/06/2010 17:18

24 hours. That's 350ml that includes as a drink, but also what I can sneak into his food.

I think it's recommended that they have at least a pint of milk a day up to a year old.

Is he not a big milk fan then? What does he eat/drink in a day?

FionaSH · 29/06/2010 17:46

Oh he's going a bit short then.
Not a big fan at the moment. Will try and sneak more in his food. He has porridge or weetabix and milk for breakfast, something like chicken and veg followed by a yogurt for lunch, then lentils and veg and cheese followed by fruit and oats for tea. So I'm hoping he's getting a lot of fluid in that...

how about something like fish pie or cauliflower cheese? you can get a lot of milk/cheese into them which should help.

Ready brek soaks up loads of milk, so useful when they're not keep on it.

Have a look through the weaning boards for tips on how to get more dairy in - I'm sure there are loads of ideas

Does he drink much water?

lal123 · 29/06/2010 17:59

Why do they need so much milk if they are getting other dairy?

IMoveTheStars · 29/06/2010 18:02

the recommended amount of a pint a day can include other daity lal123

FionaSH · 29/06/2010 18:18

No he doesn't drink much water, a few drips when he's playing with his beaker - can't use it properly yet. I'll look for more dairy based weaning recipes - thanks

will he take water in a bottle? DS never took to a beaker at all, and until very recently (2.5) had all his water in a bottle!

just a thought

lal123 · 29/06/2010 19:19

And what are the magic nutrients they only get from dairy? Genuinely curious as DD (9 months) probably isn't taking the recommended amount

MumNWLondon · 29/06/2010 19:21

How do you know its 350ml? Breasts don't have measurements on them? Is he not taking any from you?

IMoveTheStars · 29/06/2010 20:36

lal - www.nutritiondata.com/facts/dairy-and-egg-products/69/2

Vit A, Vit D, Folate, B12, Riboflavin etc etc
(that's just cows milk )

Apparently organic milk has more fat soluble vitamins (no idea why)

IMoveTheStars · 29/06/2010 20:37

oh, and calcium, obviously

FionaSH · 29/06/2010 20:38

Breasts don't but the bottles I express into do....I won't bore you with the details as I've already been told off for going on about the same thing, but my dilemma is here
