Domperidone to increase supply?

Evening all

DD is 8 days old now and so far been on the bottle. I fully intended to breastfeed but for some reason (and I have no idea what the reason is) I didnt offer her the breast, I think I was too scared and the midwives didnt persue it. Im still leaking a lot, and after a really good discussion with my midwife yesterday, she suggested I try expressing some milk a couple of times a day and then offering DD breast. She explained that I wouldnt never produce enough to satisfy DD but I could supplement her bottles with breast.

Today I also met my health visitor and she suggested I speak to my GP about getting some Domperidone to increase my own supply. Does anybody have any experience of this drug? Or even trying to establish breastfeeding having bottle fed?

I really want to offer DD breast but not sure where to go from here. Looking back im actually really annoyed with myself for not offering the breast in the first place

Congratulations on the birth of your DD.

You do not explain why your midwife thinks you will not have enough milk to feed your baby and I'm not sure that expressing first is the best thing though I'm not an expert. I would consult a breastfeeding counsellor but in the meantime, I would just offer her the breast first and if she is still hungry, top her up with a bottle.

I have no idea about Domperidone but I did use moremilkplus and goats rue to increase my milk supply and it really worked. In hind sight goats rue was probably a bit extreme and one of the side effects is an increase in breast size (temporarly as they reduced when I stopped using it!)

I have a friend who sucessfully moved from bottle to breast. It's still very early days and you obviously do have milk so all is not lost - good luck!!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.
I started taking Domperidone & trying to BF when my DD3 was 10 days old, she had been entirely ff till then. I had eclamptic sezures during labour and was so weak I couldn't even hold her for 14 hours.
I've never breastfed before but really wanted too this time.
I started by buying Domperidone (brand name here Motillium) over the pharmacy counter. I made up 3oz bottles, but always offered breast first, within a few days she was getting enough breatmilk to drop a couple of bottles. By 2 weeks later she only had 2 3oz bottles when I thought she was still hungry after feeding. Usually 1 mid morning and 1 last thing at night.
Within a few more days the only formula she had was last feed at night, but now she is nearly 8wks old and entirely BF.
Just so that you know, Domperidone is not licensed for this use in the UK so most docs cannot prescribe it, and try not to tell pharmacists why you are buying it as I had one hitler style woman who refused to sell it too me whilst saying "I understand but can't sell it for this reason." No she didn't understand, just being a jobsworth even though my HV was really supportive etc.
Good luck, keep feeding as often as you can, but be prepared for it to be a lot more time consuming. DH finds it a pita when he wants to go out and do something, but I'll often feed in the car then go and join DH and the other 4 monsters children.
Where abouts are you in the country, if you're anywhere within driving distance of Cambridge I'd be happy to meet up and have a chat & a drink.Let us know how you get on.
