My 7month old DS has been drinking less and less breast milk till yesterday he decided to not bother at all, and pulled the strangest of faces when I tried! Have managed to get a small of amount of formula down him, but have a huge problem.... my boobs have swollen to huge proportions and are so sore. Am expressing 5 mins from each 2-3 times a day.

Any one got any advice as to how I do this and to make it as painless as possible?!?!?

Are you wanting to wean him from breastfeeding or continue to stimulate your supply?

SleepySheep · 17/06/2010 13:56

From the look on his face, think it's time to wean him!

though am concerned he only takes 2oz at a time from a bottle

Unusual for a 7 month old to decide to self-wean. SOunds more like a nursing strike to me. It depends if you want to wean him, in which case, minimal expressing to keep you comfortable, supportive bra etc while supply decreases.

Otherwise, if you want to keep going, you need to coax him back advice here and keep pumping to maintain your supply until you do.

He's been having problems feeding for a while now, and the HV has said that's he's probably fed up of the taste now that he's on three meals a day!

Just concerned that he's now not getting enough!

I agree with soapsy re nursing strike, HVs often talk a load of cobblers when it comes to breastfeeding. How much food it he taking in from his three meals? It would have to be a pretty substantial ammount to drop to 2oz of formula at a time. What happens when you try to put him to the breast?

SleepySheep · 17/06/2010 14:44

has weetibix and 1/2 banana for breakfast, 120g for lunch and a yogurt, 120g for tea and some fruit. I also make sure he has some cheese.

He's not good at taking a bottle or sippy cup.

If I put him to the breast, I get thumped, kicked, bitten and he screams

Are you offering the breast before meals?

SleepySheep · 17/06/2010 18:39

No, attempt to feed him at 7am when he wakes up, 10.30, 3pm and 7pm.

Refuses point blank in the morning, 10.30 ans 3pm he manages 5 mins max and normally has a long feed at 7pm - but wouldn't last night!!

Considering he went from feeding every 2 hours, this is quite a change!

Hmm, my twins had two seeming strikes around then. One was because they were ill, and the other was solved by switching to rugby holds.

Could it be a position thing?

I'm quite happy to stop breastfeeding now. I'm so proud of myself for lasting 6 months as it hasn't been easy. Just concerned about pain and how much formula he's taking
