12 week old with tongue tie - is it too late to get it cut?

the reason I'm asking is that initially the tongue tie wasn't a problem, it's only a slight one, as he feeds really quite well from boob and bottle.
He is a very colicy/windy baby and have noticed that he actually gets more windy on the boob than the bottle so I'm thinking that the tongue tie might be the problem.
What do you think?

I doubt it is too late, I would get it one, very simply and quick still at that I age I should think - certainly was at 2/3 weeks.

No, it' never too late. And remember if the NHS is funny about doing it you can always get it done privately - just ring any bupa hospital with an ENT consultant.

it might not be tongue tie thats causing him to be more windy - my let down is so fast that ds2 really struggles at the start of each feed and therefore takes in a lot of wind.

12 weeks is not too late my son is 5 years old and has just went last week to see about his tongue tie they didnt do it when my son was a baby because he fed ok and he was born with cysts on his lung which meant we all knew he would need a operation when he was 3 to remove the cysts and they only wanted to deal with that. my sons doctor said she had a 83 year old man come in and said he wanted his tongue tie cut now so dont think you can ever be too old. After all my son has been through i dont want his cut so if we wait until he is a little older they can give him a general and then just push it back and release his tongue as my son is scared of being fully put to sleep but your baby is perfect age as they dont have any fears.

Def not to late to do but in my area NHS only do upto 16 weeks so def worth seeking a referal asap.

Definitely not too late - my son is nearly 17 weeks and had his TT (posterior one) done on Wednesday. He has always been a prolific air swallower and he has improved a bit since having it done. Previously you could feel his abdomen distended by air - it would visibly deflate when he burped these big man-sized burps. Also, what I have noticed is that he now seems to be better able to comfort suck rather than just drink.

I have also been told that the apparent degree of tie is not indicative of likely problems - some seemingly mild ones cause major problems and some seeming severe ones less so.

I would say get it done. We had it done in an NHS hospital but paid to get it done privately IYSWIM as there was a 5 week wait otherwise. It was £80, hardly a whimper from him and all fine afterwards.

OH, have just seen this is an old, old thread!

my babies were done around 3 months and like narmada's improved windiness no end. we did have one very tough night afterwards though when both clearly found feeding quite sore. worth it though for the better feeding since. Also I think I have a small posterior TT like all 3 of my children and it's only recently I've realised most people can stick their tongue out without it hurting.
