Best reusable breast pads?

Currently leak a lot when feeding so need them. Currently (guiltily) using disposables and want to switch.

Any reconsiderations and why?

Thanks

well I got the boots own brand ones (I am quite biased as DH works for boots) but they have a little wash bag.

they are really really comfy and so much nicer than disposables, and better when it's cold!

but a word of warning. you MUST wash them in the bag - DH recently had to dissect the washing machine as one had got all caught up!

Popolino cotton ones are lovely. Really comfy and soft, and bigger than some others I've tried. They also do bourette silk and wool ones which are great for sore nipples. I don't remember them coming with a wash bag though.

I have the Mothercare washbales, but TBH they don't work and I usually have to resort to disposables, so I'd also be interested in any suggestions.

Hey itsallgointobefine have you considered breast shells?? When I feed/express in the mornings I leak a fair bit from the other side, so I 'catch' it with a Tommee Tippee pot, although I suspect a breast shell would be easier...most days I can collect a good 1-2 oz this way. Seems a shame to waste it!

walking boob I'm too lazy to deal with sterilising etc. Plus, I'm hoping this leakage will stop when things settle down a bit? [hopeful face]

the leaking phase isn't endless, I only used pads at all for the first few months.

WalkingBoob · 01/06/2010 17:09

Er...bit of a contentious one but I haven't sterilised my pots for some time...just wash 'em in v hot soapy water. There is a growing school of thought to suggest that bf bottles etc don't need sterilising, but of course the decision is yours.

Hehe, my DD is 18 weeks and I'm still leaking, so your hunt for a decent reuseable pad is a worthwhile one!!

Of the ones I tried, Boots seemed the best. I didn't like the Avent ones - dried out like cardboard. Some ?Bravissimo were okay but could leak on heavy days & were quite big.

LilyPadz (made of silicone) are good for swimming, or (IME) when you want to wear a tight fitting top and don't want the outline of the pads showing through. I'm not sure I'd want to wear them all the time, though, and you're not supposed to use them till your supply is well established.

I used the lansinoh ones (from John Lewis) as they are 100% cotton so don't get sweaty. I found them really comfy and mostly effective. But used disposables if it was crucial as they sometimes leaked (not often though, its just sometimes you don't want to chance it!). But I don't need them anymore, although still bfing (DD is 11mo).

I have the mothercare ones, & the emma jane ones.

I had to call mothercare when i got them so they could explain how I could tell which way round they got (as it didn't want to wear them insideout) I have marked them with a laundry pen - they are better than the emma jane ones.

I also have the lillypads which you can't really use all the time but useful under tight tops. i don't bother with anything when swimming as can't see that leakage would be more than a few drops which is more pleasant than baby wee in the pool!

i am still using disposable ones at nighttime as i leak a lot then and the washable ones just not absorbent enough.

also during feeding push in the other nipple to avoid leaking.
