Stopping bf .... how???

Hello,

this is my first time posting but have been lurking for a while...

My dd is 5 months and i'll be returing to work part-time at the end if August by which time i would like her to be weaned onto formula.

So the questions are what is the most comfortable way to reduce milk production and leading up to stopping completly? what problems can come up when stopping? how do babies settle as bf has been DD's main comfort?

Thank you

My DD comfort fed loads when she was small but by the time she was 6 months she didn't do it any more so we never had an issue with that, even though it was what I was most worried about.

I think I dropped a feed a week and replaced it with a bottle until she was no longer b/feeding at all.

It wasn't a problem but she was used to bottles and formula - does your DD take these at the mo?

She has never had formula but she has been bottle fed ebm occasionally, but never takes it very well.

which feed did you drop first?

Trying to remember...I think we dropped the bedtime feed first, then the day ones. The morning one was definitely the last to go.

Your dd will be about 8 months by August & will have done so well. Personally, it worked for me by giving up the last, bedtime feed, which was the most relaxed & pleasurable for us both, you can keep this going for months, until dd "turns away" You will know. Look at what your new routine demands of you and adjust gradually. You'll both be fine.

hmmm, might be nice to lose the day feeds in prep for work then drop morning and night when she gives up herself then.
Its only the daytime feeds that will be effected by my work hours so that would be most practical i suppose.
