Anyone experienced this?

I've just stopped feeding my 19 month old twins. I had cut down to 1 feed a day (before bed) and had been doing that for around 8 weeks. I still seemed to have a lot of milk by their bedtime.

Last Saturday was my last feed and I was in A LOT of pain till Wednesday or so. It's got better, but tonight I seem to be in pain, and the ducts around my nipple are quite engorged. Any advice? Most people I know who stopped feeding, even dropping from 4 feeds a day to nothing, said it was over after a week. With my first ds, I gradually cut down and experienced no pain or engorgment whatsoever, so this is really new to me...

What's going on?

I continued to give them an odd feed for a month or so as I needed to relieve my breasts. Some days I fed others not.

Well done for feeding twins for so long.

Wonderful

I also offered DS3 the occasional 'suck', just for decompression purposes after I had made up my mind that he had had the 'last' feed. In my mind, these very brief sessions were not about feeding or even giving comfort, they were purely for my benefit and physical relief. He was 13 months as the time and did not mind to oblige; equally he never asked for another feed after the milk had finally dried up.

The pain from engorged breasts/blocked ducts is just a horrible sensation and I never managed to improve it with either hand or pump expressing. IMVHO, getting the baby/babies to give you relief is the way to go. Then apply cold pack/cooled cabbage leaf and wait and see whether you'll need them again.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks so much for your advice...interesting youboth did that, I haven't heard of that (just in my circles of RL friends). Thank goodness for mumsnet. Were the kids fine with the occasional feed? It didn't make them want more? I wonder if the milk will be a bit disgusting though after being in there for a week! Can only try. Think I'll get one of them on there at least.

DS3 never came back asking for another feed . And even though it had been me who was impatient to stop, it almost hurt my feelings that he was so obviously not bothered one way or another. I am clearly v difficult to please .

Hope you are more comfortable today .

Offered it to my ds2 who was the big boobie boy and he wasn't interested ! Dd took it though (can't taste toobad, she's a real fusspot) and I am much relieved. They're still aq bit painful...I think being engorged for 8 days has taken its toll on my nipples!

My DC did continue to ask for more but I managed to distract them easily. They were 18 months,2 years and 2 years.(now feeding DS2 8 months)

I hope you are feeling better.

Did it just the once and it did the job. Dd never asked again. Everything so much better though my boobs are like saggy pancakes. I miss my nice full breasts!

Thanks for your advice folks. It really worked!
