Why is my 5mo behaving like a newborn?

Help!! My 5mo has turned into a milk monster again.

A few weeks back I think we had the sleep regression, followed by a growth spurt but then things seemed to settle down. She even slept through for 4 nights in a row . Then BAM! Back to waking at least twice (was just once) but more often 3/4 times (last night was 5 but putting that down to the heat).

I wasn't expecting another growth spurt so soon given that we have just got the last one. This has been going on for a week and I feel like a zombie.

It has also taken ages to get her to sleep on a night - last night was 2 hours . She is knackered but fights sleep so much. She also seems to want to play when she wakes and starts babbling and smiling at me. And last night she did a poo at 3am - haven't had any overnight poos since she was about 10 weeks.

Isn't showing any signs of teeth yet although last night I resorted to teething gel and calpol when she just wouldn't settle. She is EBF BTW

Any ideas/tips for getting through this? Not sure if I have posted in right place (behaviour? sleep?)

is it very hot where you are ? My DD (15 weeks) has been feeding loads this weekend but I think it's thirst more than anything as she takes a lot of small feeds which must be mainly foremilk

No answers but interesting to read about the hot weather as DS just would not settle last night unless he was sucking, the night before marginally better, and this after a good few nights of better routine (he is 25wks).

I will be interested to read what advice/suggestions you are given.

I thought that too Fibilou, until I remembered she started like this on Tues night and it didn't get really hot until Fri. I think last night probably had something to do with the heat though and the amount of crying she did before finally going to sleep must have made her thirsty.

She hasn't been feeding more frequently during the day though and the night feeds have been long feeds, not just a quick 5 mins to satisfy her thirst.

Today she has been grouchy all the time and hasn't had a decent nap - just seemed to only go into a light sleep and therefore woke at the slightest sound. Took 45 mins to settle her tonight and she has just woken up screaming. When I went up, she had her eyes shut and her hand in her mouth. I was able to settle her with a head stroke and a bit of shushing - could it be her teeth?

Pavlov here's hoping we get some advice or at least some moral support from others going through similar experiences.

Is she learning any new tricks as that can make them wakeful. If it helps, DS became a bit of a monster until nearly 6 months and then starting sleeping better just before I started weaning . He now has patchy nights when he can't stop crawling/ hauling himself up/ babbling/ chatting etc and is 7mo.

Hi - I would guess 2 things:

  1. Heat.
  2. Her age.

Between 4 - 6 m can be really hard as thier appitite is huge - not that weaning would help! Try to offer more feeds in the day and see if it helps - didn't for us but I know some who say it does.
