Water OK straight from tap for 6.5mo old?

Up until about 2-3wks ago my DS was ebf. Have now introduced some formula as part of the whole weaning process. Intend to keep bfing for as long as poss, but for it to be down to twice a day by the time I go back to work (when he is 11mo).

Anyway - I was wondering about making up formula. At the mo I keep some cooled boiled water in bottles in the fridge. When I make the formula up I put boiling water in first (about half) and swill around to mix & sterilise the formula, then top up with the cool water to shorten the cooling time.

Would it be OK to top up with tap water? Surely it's OK in our country (UK)? Also would it be OK to give sips of water straight from the tap with solids or should I faff with cooled-boiled for longer??

It is ok for tap water to drink but not for formula as the milk powder and tap water breed bacteria. I could be wrong though!

Yep, tap water is OK to drink on it's own, but if you're making up formula you need use fresh boiled water.

The method you're using is good though - you're killing any bugs in the formula with boiled water, and then topping up with cooled boiled water.

Good - right PITA making sure I always have enought cooled-boiled water. I'll keep on use boiling water first with formula to kill any bacteria.
Thanks
