Taking Alli whilst breastfeeding?

Is it a really bad idea? DD is 8 months old, but still feeds quite a lot. I am just struggling to get rid of weight and it is really getting me depressed. I'm getting to the point where I don't want to eat at all.

I thought if I asked here I'd get a bit of better advice than anywhere else. Would obviously not do it if was going to harm DD in any way or meant that I had to give up feeding.

I was on Xenical (prescription Alli) before I was PG with DD and they refused to give me any more as long as I was feeding as you need the fat and calories to feed your baby also there is no evidence to say whether it would pass into your milk and have the same effect on your DD. If you say you are BF the won't sell it to you. Wait until you have finished feeding then use it if necessary.

I wouldn't. BUT I've done Weightwatchers and have lost loads of weight really easily - you get a lot of extra 'points' for bf so on 3 good meals a day plus a snack and I've lost nearly 3 stone in 5 months.

Don’t use orlistat while breastfeeding! I used it (half strength 60mg, just once a day) while breastfeeding my LO three times a day and LO got hives three days after I started orlistat. Hives went away three days after I stopped taking the pills. Clearly it takes a few days to pass into my bloodstream, milk, and then baby’s system. Anyway, do not risk it bc it does pass into the milk!

As OP's LO is nearly 12yrs old now, she's probably not breastfeeding anymore.

I know OP’s post is old, but lots of people look things up on mumsnet and will see this so I was just trying to be helpful
