Going goaty?

This is a silly question and I suspect I know the answer. However... dd is six months and we have just started her on solids. She has been ebf since birth.

I have been expressing and making up porridge etc. with that, but it's disheartening to either hand express or get out the pump for such tiny amounts. I have tons of frozen bm but it tastes all plasticy and weird and I wouldn't drink it myself.

I am wary of giving her cow's milk (e.g. cooked with porridge) because I suffered badly with a cow's milk allergy as a baby too. However, I was fine with goat's milk. Is it mental to try that on her, or should I stop being so bone idle?

Someone is going to suggest using water which is the sensible answer.

It's not a mad idea to try it. I would probably use the frozen EBM though - you might not want to drink it, but she evidently likes it I still have some in the freezer which is over a year old now and I should throw it away, it seems a waste, I wish I had just used it in a cheese sauce or something for DS when he was younger!

This might be a daft question, but have you tasted your fresh breastmilk? I chucked loads of frozen ebm cos it tasted 'funny', then eventually realised it tasted quite similar when fresh - I'd not tasted it!

COuld you try her with small amount of cow's milk and see?

I used goat's milk for DD from about 7mo cos she had exczema. No idea if it helped, but it didn't make ti worse and she eventually grew out of it.

Porridge made with just water is pretty bland and may not give enough calories for such a young baby. There's always soya milk or the nut milks (almond) if you're not avoidung them for other allergy reasons.

My fresh tastes fine, like watery condensed milk . I think it picked up a plasticy taint from the pump bottle or something.

And, yes, getting enough calories is a concern. And my own personal prejudice that porridge made with water is just plain weird.

I don't think that soya milk is recommended for babies, also rice milk, I can't remember exactly why, but it's not recommended unless they can't have any other type of milk.

Of course you could just do BLW and skip the porridge stage altogether

Use your frozen EBM stock otherwise liquid gold is going to waste!

After you have sterilised your breastpump/bottles wash them out again with boiling water before you use them and use the bm storage bags for the milk. My breastpump makes my milk taste like tupperware if I don't rinse it when it comes out of the steriliser

I tried a bit of the goat's milk this morning. dd has not yet sprouted horns or a terrifying rash.

Will try the rinsing, ta.

I am doing blw, but since I like Ready Brek, I didn't want to prepare something separate for dd. This way, she can have some of my porridge.

Have you thought about oat milk?
