At the risk of sounding like an arse is there anything I can do to prepare for the 4 month growth spurt?

All in the title really. DD had a 12 week growth spurt from hell which ended in sursing strikes and all sorts - I think she was frustrated because for a couple of days I just couldn't produce enough milk fast enough.

It was horrid and distressing for both of us and she is now 15 weeks and 4 days so I am kind of assuming more of the same is just round the corner.

Are there any pro active measures I could take to make sure the supply is there when she needs it? I don't want to supplement with formula - we just about managed not to before but it was so, so difficult. I'm really not looking forward to going through it again.

Apart from pumping to boost your milk supply I don't think there's anything else really. But pumping is a pain in the arse don't you think and you could get in trouble with blocked ducts and things if your breasts are over full for too long.
You make milk as its needed and even when you feel utterly empty you will still be producing milk. Just be sure to drink loads of water and get lots of sleep/rest.
There shouldn't be any reason to suppliment with formula.
Get a relative or friend to come and give you some help so the you can get extra sleep/rest. And feed her lying down in bed in the night so you can doze while she's busy.

Wasabs - Hi! I'm about to enter this - plus even worse sleeps etc I expect. DS will be 16 weeks on Sunday.

Come and chat to us on our postnatal group thread. Blue set it up the other day - can't do links unfortunately.
I have been ranting about wanting to do routines and then not giving a toss about routines and wanting more sleep and not minding cos that's what's baby's do - inconsistent parenting - i might start a new parenting movement! so if the idea of that doesn't bore you too rigid (i bore myself sometimes so it might well do) then come on over.

Anyway HUGE apologies for the flagrant hijack - hope to see you soon on tother thread xxx

I don't know but am interested as it was was hell for us last time.

I'm wondering if it might be worth starting on galactalogues (sp?) nothing serious, just up intake of oats and the like.

My milk supply was very sparse in the evening ... so I tried "breastfeeding tea" from Napiers the herbalist. Anyway, I used to sit down in the afternoon with a pot of that and things did improve - not sure if it was the tea, or the enforced rest, or whether it was just my body producing to increased demand!

bella you sound like me lol...

Wasabs - yes dd is 11lb 4 but v cute into the bargin, I'm not worried about her size but she does require the boob to be no more than 2 foot away which means trips to hair dressers etc don't happen anymore! I'm pretty sure through the haze last night that she stayed latched on ALL night either on one side or the other, when she sleeps in the day it is with boob in mouth - everyone tells me I'm spoiling her and I'm slightly worried about creating the preverbial 'rode for my back' but it keeps her happy so don't really know what else to do - seems a shame to let her scream all day when there's such an easy fix (going slightly off topic sorry!)
