Would a fast let down cause horrific wind?

Perhaps an obvious question to most but I;m looking for ideas behind DS's sudden horrendous wind. He's almost 6 weeks been ok - had a few funny days and i was advised on here to look at Lactose overload. Advice worked a treat - but now he's in more pain than ever - out of the blue.

I feel like i fill up a lot (boobs hurt)just before a feed and have seen it shooting out - could this be the problem??

yes I think it can. Have you tried catching the first spurts in a muslin or towel before you let him feed?

Does any of this sound familiar?

I had this. I kind of think it's just part of being a 6 week old baby. I tried EVERYTHING. By which I mean letting the spray spray til it stopped and then putting DS back on. Drinking Fennel tea.Giving him infacol and gripe water. It's mostly a ride it out thing tho it certainly helps to feel like you're doing something to help. DS is still farty but at least it doesn't cause him pain anymore. In the middle of the night I used to stand with him under the extractor fan with a dummy in his mouth. I also used to let him sleep that part of the night tummy to tummy with me which seemed to soothe him and was very nice for me. invariably when i'd popped him back in his basket in the morning we would see it rock from side to side and the hear the biggest PARP and then another and then another. Incredible really.

I don't think it it was anything i ate. i really think it was a combo of too much milk (possibly overfed), too fast letdown and an immature digestive system. I can't remember when it went away but definitely by 10 weeks twas not an issue. I went straight from worrying about that to becoming obsessed with how he settled to sleep. The plight of motherhood eh.

of course it might be something else but sounds the same...hope it goes soon. x

Thank you for your replies and links. The kellymom one is great - and yes it is exactly how DS is. Will try the ideas for feeding etc.

Thanks for sharing your experience bella roll on the next 4 weeks....and as you say i'll be worrying about something else! Its just when they change so rapidly and out of character its a shock to the system!
