Infacol

After trying everything else (cranial osteopathy, positioning more upright when I'm feeding him, massage etc etc), I've bought some Infacol to try to help with DS2s wind (which is waking him up in pain,40 minutes after going to sleep).

Anyhow, he is nearly 8 weeks old and still feeding quite frequently (about 2 and a half hours) and I don't want to give him Infacol every feed, or else he'll be getting loads. I'm tempted to give him every feed through the evening / night, but every other feed in the day. I just wondered what others do?
Thanks

I give my 18 week old DD Infacol every feed (she feeds every 3 hours during the day) - she didn't have colic but awful trapped wind which would make her nights (and mine!) very disturbed, sometimes with her waking herself crying. I stopped it when she was about 12 weeks and it was fine for a couple of days but then she had some awful nights so started again, though I might try stopping it again soon. As I understand it it's fine to give fairly long term, and I think (?) you have to give it every feed for it to have an effect. Does it seem to help your DS?

I keep forgetting but I try and remember for her nighttime formula bottle but don't bother if breast feeding or for an EBM bottle top up(although should probably try more with the EBM bottle) but that's because DD is okay on boob and wind. I would think every other feed during day and every feed at night sounds very sensible.

To be honest I don't think infacol does that much there is another one called Dentinox which I found a bit better (but partly because can be put in bottle but if you ain't bottle feeding then thats no good!). I much prefer gripe water after a feed if she is distressed- soothes DD right down and brings up a nice big squelchy burp!

Oh and we also tried colief and that worked a bit but then DD seems okay without it now too. That is an enzyme that helps break down lactase so its not for trapped wind as such but if its waking your DS 40mins later then could it be more tummy achey digestion thingy than wind?

I know you aren't bottle feeding so ignore this bit but for other mums this might be relevant too- we found aptamil comfort reduced trapped wind issue massively as she takes it much slower and doesn't swallow as much air.

susitwoshoes - i've only started with it yesterday evening. just concerns me that he is feeding so frequently (and it contains sodium saccharin and e numbers, i don't want to give more than i need to). he is waking hourly at night sometimes. poor thing just farts all of the time and seems in constant discomfort (i.e. crying, arching back etc). only 'down time' is when he is on his front for his daytime naps - he's been asleep now since 8am, which is a much longer stretch than he gets at night.

thankdeka - i'll try gripe water.

thank you both for posting.
