7mo nursing strike or teething?

my 7mo hasn't had a decent feed since yesterday morning. She spent yesterday afternoon shouting at my breast or crying. When i changed her nappy it was dry. She's had a little bit since then, but was waking in the night, crying and having to be cuddled to sleep as she wouldn't feed - normally there's no crying, she wakes up, i feed her, she falls asleep.
she had a heavy wet nappy overnight and weed on me while i was changing her so i'm not too worried but how long do i let it go on for and what do i do next.
Also she has a really nasty rash on her hand and wrist - is this worth seeing the doctor over?

nasty rash i would see a doc. any other symptoms - aversion to bright light, stiff neck - hate to be alarmist (menigitis symptoms) but nasty rash could be nasty!

(Feel very alarmist now - sorry!)

Saying that I have 7 month old DS and he is getting increasingly fickle re: bfing . I don't know if he has really upped his solid intake which is changing his routine iyswim...

I know, but it doesn't look like a meningitis rash, she is showing no other symptoms and is otherwise well. Plus I think a meningitis rash is usually on the torso - I am worried I will get there and they'll point to the matching rash on her chin and tell me it's dribble Which is fine, but coming with the feeding strike is worrying me.
She isn't eating a lot more solids, I did think it was distractibility yesterday but through the night I really thought she'd have a good feed, when the alternative was crying herself to sleep
Anyway, will get dressed and call the docs, thanks

its probably fine and like you say some kind of teething thing... my ds got a very sudden red rash on his chin from the dribble. i put paw paw ointment on it and it went away just as quickly. didn't know meningitis rash was usually on torso - good to know .

good luck at the docs...

thanks got an appointment at 10.30
there is a slight rash on the side of her body now so maybe a viral thing, definitely glad i made the appointment

Place your bets on what the response to breastfeeding problems in a 7mo will be!

well she's had a little feed, not huge but better
am still going to mention it though as she won't drink anything out of a cup

well, straight from docs to the hospital, been there all day. Blood tests showed nothing wrong and we;re home now. She's feeding a little better but still not herself. Rash is fading

oh gosh! what a drama! glad she's ok. my ds has been a little monkey today - not feeding well at ALL! very distracted - just didn't want it! I was massive all afternoon until before bed when he wolfed the lot! I hope he doesn't wake in the night hungry, and I hope he is ok! .

StealthPolarBear · 26/04/2010 19:04

I hope so too! It is the age for it I suppose - real food combined with an interest in everything going on. Hpoefully my DD will feed as normal through the night and yours will too - or sleep through, whichever you'd prefer at the moment

I was wrong about the torso thing btw, don't know where I got that from.

Thanks for your help today
