Hi

I am 31 weeks and hope to BF, I want to get a horse shoe shaped pillow for BF but had not realised that there were different types!

Can you recommend a good one or does it not make much difference? I am favouring one from Jojo Mama at the moment.

I've got a widgey and have used it to breast feed twice. I like it. It's similar to the Jojo one I think

My friend has a 'Breast friend' one But it has no other use except for feeding as it's a specific shape .

I like the widgey as it can be used to prop up DD2 and DD1 likes to sit on it too.

I was once very judgey in John lewis where I saw a heavily pregnant lady look at the widgey only to have her DH come over and say no I think this other one is best and put it back on the shelf.. erm how much use are you going get from that mate???

I regret not saying something to her earlier

I liked My Breast Friend, it is very secure and you can lean forward for a drink etc with baby still attached. I only used for the first 3 months though, then they sort of get better at holding themselves on.

it doesn't make that much difference tbh! my fave was a beanbag one because it moulded to the shape of the baby. I tried the widgey one and it was a bit firm and baby kept sliding off! lol

i managed with just pillows for the first 2 though

tk maxx had a couple of different ones in recently though

angfirsttimer · 17/04/2010 20:19

I have thde widgey one and it was brilliant when baby was newborn. The bonus is you can rest the TV remote your mobile phone and tea and biscuits on it as well as your baby!!!

I am using it less now baby is getting on for six weeks, it just seems a bit cumbersome now he is feeding for shorter periods, at the outset he was feeding for up to an hour so needed the support.

I will use it again though when he starts to sit up as you can sit them in the horseshoe.

shesdrivingmecrazy · 17/04/2010 20:21

I had a my breast friend but hated it as it's so stiff and has to be tied on.

I got on much better with just a normal sofa cusion tbh (although DD was big).

GOnna take mybreastfriend into hospital this time round though as having ELCS and think it will be good for keeping baby away from the scar.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/04/2010 09:24

I've got a Doomoo - nice big one so it can support my back as well as the baby - that's more of a bean-bag type one as well. I like the fact that it has more uses than just for breastfeeding...

Widgey for me

Thandeka · 18/04/2010 17:20

My breastfriend by miles. Baby doesn't fall down space between tummy and cushion. Plus you can mumsnet with TWO hands when baby is on it and doesn't need adjusting constantly. I love mine.

AnnieBeansMum · 18/04/2010 17:22

I had a widgey one too - unfortunately, DD had no interest in being breastfed (and complete lack of support from HV for me).

You are welcome to it if you are nearby - then if you don't like it, you haven't wasted a penny.

Sonilaa · 18/04/2010 20:46

I have a widgey on and love it. my sister has one of the long pillow kind but struggles with it. I just place my 4m old on the pillow and have hands free for reading...

MrsKitty · 18/04/2010 20:52

I struggled with the widgey due to being rather fat and having no waist to speak of - it's fab for propping DD up in now though. I use the mothercare V pillow, although some people find it too soft.

dinkystinky · 18/04/2010 20:54

Widgey was great for DS1 in the early days - agree its great to lie a newborn on. Great for when they're learning to sit up too...

lizzytee · 19/04/2010 23:50

...my brest friend..I help at a bf drop-in group and it is the one that seems to work best, particularly for anyone who is generous of chest.

However, I have not routinely used a cushion for either DD (one very prem, one term) so honestly would hold off buying one as an "essential". If you need one in a hurry expressyourselfmums deliver within a day.

sleepychan · 20/04/2010 09:06

I have a long beanbag one - called The Big V. Great for moulding to my dd and supporting my back.

sleepychan · 20/04/2010 09:08

Should have said, also great to sleep with towards end of pregnancy.

mistressploppy · 20/04/2010 09:21

Widgey. DS is 6mo and we use it for every feed, best thing I ever bought

Yarnie · 20/04/2010 20:25

I second My Brest Friend. I had lots of latching issues early on and went through most of the different pillows available. I found the Widgey, etc too narrow and not long enough at the sides. I could virtually do hands free breast feeding with the My Brest Friend, which was quite something with my huge boobs and tiny baby and various latching issues. It was such a relief!

Spendy, though.

jaggythistle · 20/04/2010 21:34

Widgey here too. DS is 7 months and I wish I'd had it when he was born. I had a crappy squishy one and struggled. If he wriggles he does fall down the gap sometimes.

DH has used it when feeding him EBM when I'm out too and seems to like it.

fluffyguineapigs · 20/04/2010 22:06

My brest friend saved my breast feeding. Great for getting in the right position for latching on and as it has lumbar support stops you from leaning forward and getting backache.
And, as it's firm baby can feed and sleep on you while you surf the internet one handed.

I still use mine for the dreamfeed only - at 11 months!

I tried v shaped pillows and a boppy, but this was honestly the best for me
