Feeding toddler, will colostrum come in for newborn?

35 weeks pregnant, and still feeding my 20 month old. I have been in hosptial with pains, but today while there a midwife contacted a bf adviser to arrange for her to ring me, as midwife is worried about colostrum for new baby.

I told midwife I think colostrum will come in for new baby, but now have doubts.

(I used a wonderful electric medela breast pump while in hospital, as couldnt get toddler in to feed due to childcare arrangements and I was getting too full, which then sparked the midwifes concern.)

I hadnt even thought about all this, as thought body would do what its needed for the new baby due to hormones after birth?

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and feeding my 15 month old. Currently I seem to have colostrum in my right breast and milk in my left (DD has only fed from my left breast for the last few months). The midwife at my booking appointment told me that I might not get colostrum if i'm still feeding DD, but not to worry about this as I would still be producing the best thing for my babies. Everything I've read about tandem feeding seems to indicate that you will get colostrum though.

bf adviser has just rang me, and I will get colostrum for the baby, and that body will start to produce leading up to the birth which toddler might not like the taste of and stop feeding.

So nothing at all to worry about!

Just to make sure baby gets priority with the feeding, which I was planning on doing, as that makes sense.

Dont take alot of mis-information to cause confusion does it!

Hope I havent worried anyone else now!

Glad the bf advisor has cleared it up for you. I must say I didn't really believe the midwife when she told me I might not get colostrum, just nodded along with her really. Reading you say it again put just a little bit of doubt in my mind (although I already have colostrum in one breast).
