When's the best time to stop bfing?

DD is 12mo and has 2 feeds a day (waking and before bed). My mum said we all weaned ourselves but DD is showing no signs of doing so. I've also heard that the longer you leave it the harder it is. Opinions please!!

Is there a particular reason why you want to stop? If not, why not just see how it goes.

I have no idea if that's true about the longer you leave it the harder it is to stop... ds gave up by himself at 13 months, however I think most people on here will say the best time to give up is when you want to and not when your mum wants you to. If you want to go on beyond 12 months there's no problem, the longer they get breast milk the better in my book. I struggled though because I was back at work and was away from the home for 15 hours a day. I think that's why ds gave up, he just wasn't getting enough from me.

No particular reason, I LOVE bfing, just thinking about when and how to stop.

I'd say the best time is when either you or dd has had enough =)

For me I got to a point when my dd was about 16 months and breastfeeding felt like a nuisance all of a sudden instead of a nice time for us. So I gradually weaned her over a week, once she was down to 1 feed a day we stopped and I distracted her with chocolate buttons. After two days she didn't ask for any more.
