painful breast-advice needed

Wasn't sure if I should post this in "health" anyway,I have had a painful breast for a few days, started as a strange feeling when dd was feeding, slightly uncomfortable, and then the next day it really hurt when she hugged me or bumped the breast, pain was horrible but short lived.Today it is a bit more twingey.I have prodded about a bit,it does hurt if pressed centrally, thought it might be a sore nipple but the pain seems more in the breast than that.It feels a bit like a blocked duct but I can't feel an obvious lump-could I have a block quite deep in the breast? DD does like to hold tight onto my breast when feeding, and she is a toddler so her grip is quite strong.no redness or heat.Any ideas? I will go to GP if I have to but the thought of having my breast poked and prodded is very ...(wince emoticon needed) and my GP is not pro extended feeding either.

Sounds like what I had. I was treated for mastitis. I didn't have a temp or an obvious redness or lumps but the meds worked. I also bathed in very warm water and massaged. Very tender.

Oh dear I really I hope its not mastitis....I have been feeding for over five years, never had it,although I had a blocked duct a couple of times with dd1.What are the meds, antibiotics? Did the pain go quite quickly?

thanks-When I had a blocked duct years ago there was an obvious lump there that could be seen and that I could run warm water over etc,but this is just painful. As my dd is two, nearly three, she doesn't feed a lot anyway, just night times,it feels odd when she feeds, not painful but slightly tender and as though there may be a blocked duct, but when I had blocks in the past my dd just cleared them with a long feed.I fed a couple of hours ago but my breast is still painful.Of course google came up with "cancer" which has brought me out in a cold sweat.

thankyou...I do get very freaked out whenever I google anything,I really should avoid it but I was hoping for something helpful.Anything to do with health is frightening once you have children,I used to be so blase, now at 46 with two very small girls I get into a flap very easily.

too true.I convinced myself I had a DVT a few weeks ago (in reality sore leg from long hike) I had been wearing tight wellies! it made sense at the time! I rang NHS direct and they said very politely that they thought I was fine.I even went to my GP.

It was treated with anti bs. It felt 80% better the next day but I am not sure if this was the hot water and massage or the anti b's. I didn't feel unwell as some others have said. I had quite deep breast pain. It hurt even when I walked and it was just in one side. It didn't hurt when I fead but you know when you sometimes get both breasts leak the same time and you can feel it.....well this feeling was alot stronger and I would say painfull. Hope this helps. Sorry I didn't reply to your question sooner.

thanks, that does help.it is a lot less painful today so I haven't been to the GP but I will if it gets worse again.I have been letting dd feed on that breast for as long as she likes (rather than latching her off so that I can get back to sleep),seems to be easing up,it was hurting when I walked and was just as you describe, but hopefully it is resolving itself without anti bs.
