Can you overfeed a BF baby?

Discuss.

My little angelic DS2 is massive. I am getting told off by many for "overfeeding" him (I feed him on demand.) He has, however, been big from day one and is folowing his exact line in the book. I would like to feel better about this so tell me what you think.

IMO, no you can't

esp if they are feeding on demand - they take what they need, IME

I too had 2 big babies which never lost, gained loads quickly and continued on the same line thingy

They were both deliciously lardy chubby until about 2.6

Now both are right old skinny minnies

No you can't.

If the 'many' include your HV or GP, I'd complain/switch. Otherwise, ignore.

sorry to hijack but was wondering the same turtle23 my ds was 5 wks early & weighed 6lb12 & now at 15 wks he weighs 16lb & I keep getting comments that he's feeding too much etc (i feed on demand except for 1 ff in the evening). His twin sister is piling on the lbs too but not at such a rate.
He still wakes 2/3 times a night whereas dd sleeps through 7-6!

I hope not. DS2 is being fed completely on demand and is a right chubber, he feeds constantly throughout the day and likes to just go and go and go (he has never let go of the nipple by choice, I always have to disengage, and I have let him stay there for over 2 hours).

He did lose a little the first week, but was back at birth weight by the end of it and now looks to me to be even bigger and his 0-3mnth clothes are not fitting lengthwise now at 12 days.

So different to his brother!

He is yummy.

DS was BF on demand and shot up from 50th to 99th percentile in the first couple of months! Cue lots of concerned expressions from helpful grandparents about the size of him. At his 8 month check (done at 9 1/2 months) he was on the 92nd for weight and 86th for height so IME they even out in the end. Don't worry - sounds like you (and he) are doing brilliantly.
