Any way of encouraging my very windy baby not to gulp quite so much?

DS2 is in more and more pain with his wind and I wonder if anyone has any advice? I think I must have quite a fast let down / supply as he gulps very quickly, coughs etc. He's 4 weeks, so I know my supply isn't established yet.

Any advice appreciated - thanks

I remember this stage well, you could try changing your feeding position so that he has more control, such as lying down to feed. As he gets older, he will learn to manage the let-down better and your let-down will calm down as you will adjust the amount of milk your making. Another thing that helped my DS, as I had the same problem, was using Infacol. You can get it from the chemist for a few pounds.

thanks for posting. i used infacol with ds1, just trying to see if there is anything else with positioning, before using that really.

i will try lying down to feed more and see what that is like.

he's gone from 6lbs7 at birth to 9lbs3 4 weeks later, so he's getting plenty of milk!

He sounds like a milk monster! Well done you! It will all calm down eventually, and yes, the lying down does help.

I had the same thing. Sometimes if they really struggled I would un-latch, collect the spray in a cloth and re-attach when I was not spurting like a hose

Try changing boob after a few mins of listening to him gulp, then sit him up to burp him, then try him on other boob. It worked for us, baby had to slow down!!
