Been feeding for 6 months - silly question about nursing bras

Been feeding DD for 6 months and am desperate for new feeding bras

when is the best time to get measured? does it matter?

Is my boob size pretty much sorted now?

TIA

I found by this stage my boobs didn't change much in size between feeds.

Anita do an underwired feeding bra. I've got more than my fair share of norks though, so the underwire didn't really do much for me.

I'd head to your nearest John Lewis. I found they were by far the best for measuring for nursing bras.

rubyslippers · 05/04/2010 19:51

thank you very much

I do need a lot some support so thought underwire may help to give me some uplift as well ...

I found that the way the underwire bra is designed is so that it didn't reach my rib cage (in the middle between my boobs).

The underwire actually gave no support and the shape of my boobs was a bit to the side ( a la M&S minimiser). Freya do a great nursing bra. All the support you need is in the band and your boobs don't go to the side like they do in the Royce Jasmine.

Mothercare do some quite nice foam shaped t shirt nursing bras.

rubyslippers · 05/04/2010 20:01

hmmm - out of all my nursing bras the Royce is the one which i only wear if the others are in the wash and i am desperate

i do like Hot Milk but will look at the Freya as well

thanks again

Have you dropped any feeds or started weaning? I found with both my boys that once they started on solids, their milk intake during the day decreased and my cup size reduced rather quickly - so would be worth holding off for a few weeks to see if there is any change post weaning/establishing solids.

rubyslippers · 05/04/2010 20:36

have just started weaning

DD hasn't really dropped any feeds but i am going back to work in 2 months so i guess will be feeding less

maybe i should just get one to tide me over and then go back again ...

my bras are just so washed out

I went back to normal bras when dd was about 7 months (fed her till she was 13 mo). Feeds were reducing due to solids and I was sick to the back teeth of the feeding bras by then. Nice to go back to decent underwired ones!

rubyslippers · 05/04/2010 20:42

Did you manage to pull the cup down to feed?

DD is currently feeding every 3 - 4 hours in the day (very quick though)

twice in the night as well

Hi Rubes

ds 2 is feeding every 2 hours during the day and 3 times at night.....

I'd make do for a bit then buy some when the weaning is sorted.

rubyslippers · 05/04/2010 20:46

do you think PM?

my boobies are looking more like this: (|)(|) than this (.)(.)

am all of a dither now ...

Yes I just used to pull cup down to feed.

Can't remember how often she was feeding at that stage though - she was going through teh night though (well, till about 5am). I was just so fed up of wearing nursing bras and didn't feel it was worth buying new ones - though I could have used them for dc2 of course.

dinkystinky · 05/04/2010 20:50

rubyslippers - see if you can get a cheap make do one and get new ones (mix of bf and non) before you go back to work. Best thing about being at work is wearing normal bras - I just change to bfing ones when i get home.

princessmel · 05/04/2010 21:15

LOL!!
I do Rubes. Cos then the feeds will slow down and they may get smaller still.

I think it ruins the bras when you pull the cups down. I'd make do or buy a new one if yours are truely awful.

scarlotti · 06/04/2010 09:20

Rubyslippers - have the same dilemma here. I have the Anita bras though and they're brilliant. Am on the large side and they give me a decent shape and lift that I just can't get with normal nursing bras. DS2 is now 5 months and as he helped himself to my lunch yesterday we are starting BLW. Am back to work in 3 weeks so like you, don't want to spend money unecessarily. Plus my only black feeding bra broke in the washing machine yesterday [pouting emoticon]

From what's been said above I think I might just hang off for another month or two and see what's happened to my size then.

rubyslippers · 06/04/2010 09:31

thanks everyone

i think i will wait a few more weeks until i am back at work when i will be feeding DD only twice per day

I have an non nursing bra (non wired) on today which will tide me over

will deffo look at Anita and Freya bras

good luck with the weaning Scarlotti ... things are about to get messy!
