Please help I need tips on bottle feeding my twins at night on my own

Hi
I have 18 day old twins. I am mixing formula and expressing as they are so tiny they don't seem to have much energy for breastfeeding. My DH is due to go back to work on 12th April and I wondered if any of you have had experience with bottle feeding your twins together at night. If one wakes we are waking the other to try and keep them in sync. I also have a 22 month old so as you can imagine the quicker our twins feed the quicker I can get back to bed to catch up with sleep.
Thanks in advance
Lesley

I used to wake mine so that they fed together. The easiest way for me was to do it on the sofa downstairs - I would sit it the middle, with one head on each thigh, and a bottle in each hand. That seemed to work well. I also had a cosy armchair in their room, and once they were a bit older, could kind of balance them (IYSWIM) with their heads on my lap and their bodies on the arms of the chair. Lots of people at our twins club also used bouncy chairs or baby beanbags and sat in front of them with a bottle in each hand.

When they're very tiny, you may find it easier sitting up in bed and lay each twin on a pillow with their heads in your lap and a bottle in each hand.

Good luck - once you find a way that works for you, you should find it gets easier and quicker.

I fed mine together too-can't imagine the time it would take not to!
I used the v shaped pillow to prop them on or sometimes 1 on my knees propped up facing me and the other on the pillow.
Or 1 in the crook of my arm (the same arm/hand that would be feeding the other twin on pillow)being fed with other arm's hand.
Or I used car seats.
I or dh gave 1 or 2 bottles in the day, but breastfed in the night cos it seemed more hassle getting out of bed. They slept through at 4 months so maybe you won';t have long to cope with.

My boy twin was a lethargic feeder and wouldn't feed as long as his sister as he fell asleep. I admit I used to stroke his cheek, tickle his toes and even gently pull his ears to remind him to keep feeding!

I would make sure you had everything in your bedroom-you could keep bottles in a cool bag and a kettle in there maybe?

My ds1 was 2 when the twins were born. 5 years on you wouldn't believe how easy and lovely it is. Head down and carry on was my motto, but I don't need it any more. This stage won't last for long.
Good luck.

I always fed mine together, either in bed on top of pillows with their heads on my thighs or similar set up on the sofa.

Had an older child so needed to fed quickly so had time for him (and sleep, and dh, and washing, and cooking and myself etc....)

Hey
Thanks ladies - tried to feed them with heads on my lap in bed but not much of a success. Ed is quite a sicky baby, for some reason he didn't like that position. I have tried feeding them in their bouncers during the day and have found this a bit easier so I think I'll take them upstairs with me to bed. Thanks for the suggestions about kettle etc. I'm expressing at night so have to go down stairs into the kitchen and put milk in the fridge and wash up expressing stuff anyway. I'm not bothered about getting up as it helps to wake me up a bit
Any tips on getting them to go a bit longer at night would be much appreciated though. When we first came home they were going 4 hourly but now anything between 2.5 and 3 hours - it's a killer.
Thank
L x
