changing milk

My little baby girl is only 9 weeks old but found sma gold not filling her at all so moved her to the sma blue for hungrier babies 2 weeks ago. This however has made her severly constipated and she seems to be in a lot of pain. Is it too late to change her milk and what would people recommend if i can? Any suggestions or tips much appreciated x

how do you know sma gold was not filling her?

She was quickly draining 50z of the bottle and then would be looking for more about 2 hrs later. On the hungrier baby she tends to go 3.5 hrs in the day and 4 during the night but tonight was one of the worst she screamed constantly from 6 pm to 9.30pm and passed a tiny solid lump, I felt so helpless x

well, tiny babies do usually want to feed little and often, it's how they're programmed. every 2 hours or more frequently would be expected of a breastfed baby, and so your baby is doing what comes naturally.

I would go back to the stage 1 milk, 9 weeks is very early to be on the hungrier baby milk. I would just give her more milk in each bottle or feed her more often. HTH.

ok thanks for your help it just seems that people around me are suggesting changing her milk to aptimal? but i will switch back to sma gold and see if this helps. She did tend to be more sicky on the gold but is putting on weight lovely so i dont suppose this would be a problem. Think i may be panicking

yeah, some babies are a bit sicky anyway. if she was fine aside from that i'd stick to it.

there is a common misconception (due to their marketing) that aptimil is in some way superior to other formulas, which is not true at all, so don't feel like you need to change just because of what other people say!

hope the constipation clears up soon

You could try changing brand to see if it makes a difference, but I would stick with stage 1, and Aptamil is not necessarily the best, all babies are different and there is no brand better than another.

The hungry baby milk doesn't contain any more calories, it's just harder for them to digest so that they feel full for longer, so possibly not the best thing for them. You can stay with the stage 1 milk until 12 months if you want to.

9 weeks is really too early for hungrier baby milk, its very constipating so I'd definitely go back to first stage milk - changing brand sometimes helps with digestive issues but to be honest, formulas are pretty similar. They have to be by law!

Might just want to suckle - do you offer a dummy? BF babies tend to fulfil their suckling needs at the breast and aren't always drinking milk when they are latched, but when FF its possible to mistake the need to keep suckling after the bottle is empty for being hunger, as babies can't keep sucking on an empty bottle iyswim.
