Bf baby slow to regain birth weight...

DD2 is nearly 3 weeks and was born at 10lb 14. At 10 days she had dropped to 9lb 12, and 1 week later (on the same scales) was 9lb 14. I'm glad she's on the up, and hope she's just slow to get back to the (massive) size she came out as. Anyone else have experience of a baby who took a while to get back to birth weight?
She's feeding well, about every 2 hours, cluster feeds in evenings and at other times too , takes 2+ breasts per feed, plenty of wet and dirty nappies and is alert and content in between.
Other things to note are that her poo took a while to go from brown to yellow, and she was jaundiced until about a week ago. Could either of those play a part?
I'm getting lots of bf support and have improved our latching and feel more confident in my body to feed her well, guess I'm just hoping to hear that someone else has been in the same boat!

My DS took 6 weeks to get back to his birth weight - He only started gaining after we started mixed feeding formula/BM/EBM, which we felt we had to try as he was born 6 weeks prem.
He was 6lb14 born and is 7 weeks old now.
Somebody did ask about jaundice as I think this can cause slow weight gain.
The last 2 weeks he has gained 8oz and 9.5 oz respectively so hopefully your DD2 will be the same. Well done on sticking with it. Keep asking for advice re your BF as I though DS was feeding well - but having seen him take a bottle he will look as though he is feeding at times but just be comfort sucking. Good luck

My dd was slow to regain, by 3 weeks had lost 6oz and gained 1oz. On advice from midwife/hv I panicked and did ff top ups for 3 weeks then had to work hard to wean her off these. Now she is back to exclusive bfing and doing fine. I say that - I don't actually go to get her weighed!
Whenever I went to clinic her gain wasn't up to the bottle feed chart's standards which would always knock my confidence. When we went for our 6 week check with my very lovely and experienced doctor (I mean experienced in life and children not medical - although he is that too) he said as long as she was alert, a good colour and weeing and pooing lots there was nothing to worry about. He told me he only weighed his daughter once when she was born and she is 21 now! It was the best advice I've had.
Now I don't think I will go back to clinic she will never be the worlds biggest baby but she's happy and I'm not stressed and I think that's the best way to build your milk supply and rear a healthy baby.

my ds didn't regain his birth weight for about 6 weeks. I went in to total stress meltdown, he lost nearly a pound and then just didn't shift, however like your dd he was alert, healthy looking and producing lots of wet and dirty nappies so none of the hvs and mws were worried, and eventually he got going. I think if all other signs are good, don't worry about it too much.

thanks so much- noone seems really worried here either, although my sleeplessness + hormones aren't making it easy for me to stay calm! Will just keep truckin on then...

I think if they're sleeping too much or they're not thriving in other aspects then it's fair enough to try something to speed up weight gain, but if everything's fine then they tend to catch up in the end. DS went from the 50% centile to the 0.4% centile and took almost 6 months to creep back up to the 25th. Two and half years later he's now on the 75th!

I agree with HeadFairy as long as all other signs are good just keep at it, try not to get her weighed too often if you can help it!
