4mth old waking in night

I have a 4 mth old ds who has been mixed fed sinced birth. He is mainly af to be fair but he does has a few bf and i bf him a lot to settle him too as he isnt keen on a dummy.

He roughly feeds and settles fine during the dday so that isn't really a problem. It's the nighttime that is becoming a bit of a nightmare. He used to have a last af about 8 or 9 and then sleep till about 2am so he was sort of going a bit longer than in the day-about 5 to 6 hrs which was great. I tended to bootle feed him then and he would then maybe wake about 5 0r 6 am when I would put him in bed with me and bf.

However, the past couple of wks or so he has been going to bed the usual time but then waking 3 hrs later at around 11 or 12 ish. I am then giving a bottle as normal. Then he is waking 3 hrs after that again and i still put him in bed and bf. He isn't really settling though and last night he was just bf off and on all night. Im done in. I would expect this off a newborm, but he seems to be going backwards rather than forwards.

Do you think this may be a famous 'growth spurt' or what? I am also wondering whether he is just uncomfy in his crib now he is getting older and maybe needs his cot as i remember my second ds being like this and then sleeping through as soon as he was in a cot. Or should i maybe just give him another bottle at the second feed just to 'zonk' him out? Im happy bf and i don't want to stop but I go back to work soon and I need some kind of improved routine.

Thanks

Hi,
Definitely sounds like the 4-month growth spurt/sleep regression stage. Many babies go through it - expect it to last about 2 months and there's nothing much you can do about it (well, IME anyway!) Don't have any advice on the feeding angle, as only have experience with BF, sorry.

He may be more comfortable in the cot - worth a try?

Good luck!

2 mths?!. Don't remember it being like this with the others!

Not sure what to do about the cot. Its just easier with him being in the crib in our room at the minute. Maybe i could try it one night and revert back if he is still the same.
