HI everyone after giving up the breast feeding and now been bottle feeding for a few weeks my DS1 at 4 weeks old is very full of the wind.

So, I changed to Dr Browns bottles and seemed better. Then someone suggested that he wasn't getting the flow fast enough and could actually be sucking in air. This made sense as I stop after every 20 gulps or so to wind him! At the start of every feed he is gulping for a while, when I put the bottle down none has been taken, therefore I deduced that yes, he was gulping in nothing, or air - so I cut the teat at the hole with a sterile blade, thus making it larger.

DS1 now seems much much happier with bigger wind breaking whilst feeding and then settles very very well - except he still suffers from bum wind later on. I've tried infacol and every time he sicks up his whole bottle after it! Not tried gripe water yet though.

My HV gave me a strange look when I told her this and suggested I move up to the lvl 2 teats. I have now done this but think that these might be slower flowing than my 'cut' ones.

Does anyone have any opinions on this? Or experience. I deffo don't want to be endangering my son if he might be getting the feed to fast etc - but he seems happier, surely this is a good sign?
thanks all x

If you cut the nipples it may cause some of the chemicals in them to leak out that's why it's best to buy next size up.

I've found if the top is not tightly on it also helps with the air pressure in the bottle meaning milk flows faster.

Might be time to try the gripe water.

To be honest thought many babies are windy or hard to wind and the only thing that makes it better is time.
