Breastfed baby mucusy poo, is my diet to blame?

My 9 week old ds is exclusively breastfed. i noticed this morning his poo is really mucousy, still yellow, but like snot ( sorry TMI)
Ive googled and some say its a bug / allergic to dairy.

Im on a diet and im eating a lot of yoghurts, about 4 activia a day. could this be the problem. also DS didnt sleep very well the last 2 nights.

any advice would be fab!

K xx

Has he got a cold? Sometimes when they've got a cold they swallow a lot of snot and it comes out the other end.

My 18 wk old dd has had the same problem for ten days or so, but the nappies are also green and she is going far more frequently than she did before. I have dropped off a stool sample, but having googled it I think she may have a cows milk protein intolerance. I'm on day 4 of a dairy free diet, missing my endless cups of tea, but thinking no choc, cheese and icecream may help to shift a few pounds. Apparently it stays in your body and the baby's for a while.

I can let you know how it goes if you like. I did consider the cold thing, she has been a bit snuffly since birth, but the volume of mucus is immense, and snuffly nose can also be a symptom of the intolerance. I read about it on the kellymom website.

lycheemartini have you got alot of milk? green poo and increased frequency can mean oversupply. the less fatty milk from a fuller breast can move through the bowel too quickly causing green poo and wind, even colic. blockfeeding can turn poo back to yellow .

disclaimer: not an expert, just wot i've read, and ds had radioactive green poo until i tried block feeding. i had masses of milk and a very forcefull letdown, he also gained weight really really quickly at first. 1lb in a week at one stage.

My ds had this at 18 weeks but the poo slowly turned from yellow mucousy to mucousy green then mucousy green with a bit of blood. I took him to the doctors and was told it was a bug,no other symptoms so extrememly common for it to to show up in bf babies this way. Also tried no dairy but it made no difference and it cleared up on its own in 3 weeks.

Thanks very much for the advice RubyBuckleberry. I do have lots of milk and a forceful letdown, I will certainly try blockfeeding! Thank you

Hope your poo issue is resolved soon OP

That's interesting Happy, sounds similar to my dd, hopefully will resolve soon anyway.
