I got a letter from OFCOM this morning.
It was a very long, 4 page letter saying that they've decided that the GMTV interview with Ann Sinnott and Claire Byom-Cook didn't breach the broadcasting code.
some gighlights:
"editorial content provided sufficient contextual justification to ensure adequate protection to viewers from harmful and/or offensive material."
"any concerns that Ms Byam-Cook's comments would dissuade new mothers from starting breastfeeding, and contradicted WHO advice were considered unfounded."
"It is OFCOM's opinion that for a programme to materially mislead the audience, the content would have to present factual issues in such a manner so as to lead to the possibility of actual or potential harm. ....this discussion did not raise any issues under this rule."
"Finally, in response to some concerns that CBC was "unqualified" to speak on this subject and should not have contributed as she is no longer a midwife, Ofcom's investigations have revealed that she is a published author of several books on how to breastfeed and runs a practice advising new mothers on successful breastfeeding."
