bottle teats, why do they change?

I occasionally feed my 10 week old DS bottles of Expressed breast milk.
The bottle teats are 0-3 months and the next size are 3+months, so I assume Im supposed to change onto them, but why?

I'm probably being abit dim, but I don't understand why they change. My boobs dont change size or flow (or do they?)

Hi its a faster flow, so it lets more milk out as they get older

As the baby's suck gets stronger it gets harder for them to get slow flowing milk.. I think they suck the teat flat before the milk gets there. Not something I think would happen with the bf

I ff from the beg so I could tell when ds was struggling to get through his bottle and upped the teat

I imagine its not as big an issue when its only an occassional bottle

Hi,

I've only just changed onto the 3mth+ ones and my DS is nearly 6 months.

I heard it was better not to use one with too fast a flow, as they are used to making a bit more effort to get the milk when bf!

MY DH noticed only recently that he was struggling a bit with the newborn/size 1 teats, so we are now using some size 2 ones.

I am expressing every day now though, as I am back at work ( ), like frasersmummy says, it might not matter for an occasional bottle.

If you are breastfeeding and bottlefeeding then you should stick with the newborn size teats as they are a slower flow which is more like breastfeeding which they hve to work harder for. Otherwise they might get used to the faster flow from a bottle and get fed up with the breast.
