How much does my diet affect my windy baby? Is there anything I should eat or avoid to help?

I have a very windy 5 week old DS, and (poss TMI!) have for some reason since the last few weeks of pregancy been very windy myself. I'm wondering if there is something in my diet making both me and him this way, and if there is anything I can eat/drink, or anything I should avoid?

Is it possible that my diet could be making him more windy? I generally eat healthily, cereals, fruit and veg, etc, plenty of water. Perhaps too much tea and fruit juice, but not ridiculous amounts. Just want to help him if I can!

he will grow out of it as his digestive system matures, but the foods that i found made a difference to my dd at that age were chocolate, caffiene, citrus and veg like cabbage and sprouts etc.
it could be the tea and fruit juice...maybe drink decaf and replace juice with water? if the juice you drink has citrus in, it could also be causing problems.

try cutting all of these things out for a while, but dont worry that you will never be able to eat them again - in a couple of months your diet shouldnt be an issue anymore (at least, thats what i found with my dd). you can also try infacol, which helps babies get their wind out easily.

hope that helps!

Keep an eye on it, he might have intolerances but the only way to work it out is by exclusions. DD2 - 16wks - we have worked out is intolerant to dairy, soy, wheat and possibly egg. My system has been VERY windy since birth and despite avoiding the above is still set off by nuts and oats too. Hopefully it's something as simple as peas or cabbage. Try the easy stuff first, and don't try dairy without HV knowing - you'll need calcium supplements.

Tea and coffee made a huge difference to my ds. I cut it out and he stopped crying. Tried a cup of tea after a week and it was the first time he'd cried, in a week.

DD seemed to be a bit sensitive to me having too much orange juice. One glass a day was fine - any more and she'd be windy.

I would definitely try cutting a few things out. DS was fine after 6 months and I drink enormous amounts of coffee now
